I am looking at cameras, I've narrowed it down to the Nikon D70 and the Canon 20D. Can you guys give me some personal reviews and reccommendations? Thanks.
Also, have you heard anything about the new Nikon D50 as compared to the D70?
Any replies are much appreciated. Thanks again.

sorry, i haven't researched cameras in a while, but when I do, I usually peep out cnet.com for reviews from other users and find it useful.

I haven't shot with both, but I have the D70 and am more than happy with it.
I've heard that the lenses you get with Canon packages are usually crap kit lenses, whereas with the D70 you get something pretty nice, but I've only heard.
I follow Rigent's RSS feed and he shoots atleast some of those with the 20D and his photos are impressive and very crisp. I've emailed him before and he was very helpful so you could ask him about the 20D
check this for a comparison of cameras:

Thanks guys,
First off, the links above didn't work.
Second, I asked about the rebel XT and they said it's a great camera, but the lens that Canon's come with plain suck and the 18-70mm that the Nikon is a much better lens.

correction, 2nd links work fine

I recently was confronted with the same choice and chose the d70s, partly because it came with a better kit lens and was cheaper. ironically I very soon after ended up spending twice as much as the camera body on a fantastic 70-200mm f2.8 ed vr lens. I love them both. Ken Rockwell has an interesting comparison of the 2 cameras on his site. If you do a google search on d70 vs 20d it will probably come up. I'm on vacation of dialup, so I can't provide the link.
I haven't regretted my decision.

great response, thanks.
So far I am leaning toward the D70.

All of my photos are shot with the D70 kit lens.
Although I've just ordered in the mail a used Nikon 70-210 AF

go with the 20D. The D70 is more of a competitor to the 300D (now the 350D) which is below the 20D.

...however it really is splitting hairs. I've seen talented photographers take breathtaking shot with a pointNshoot.

I shoot with the D70s
I love it. Ive had a canon, never been a fan but they do have good color.. but man alive.. they feel like they will snap in my hands

When I was camera shopping I checked out the digital rebel (300D)
and came to conclusion that it was cheaper because it was built cheaper. It felt like toy crap camera in my hands.
The D70 is solid and has a great interface with a great learning curve for doing things faster once you get the hang of it.
In fact, it's fallen out of my poorly zippered backpack while hiking, and down a 20ft drop protected only by a lowepro with no noticeable damage. year ago and works perfect.
As for the 20D I've never touched it.

malediction, don't forget how much cheaper the 350D is though. Compared to the price of the D70, you could buy a kickass lense for the 350D. I have the 350 and i think it's great for me. my buddy has the D70 and the Nikon feels much sturdier than the Rebel, that's for sure. some people don't like this, but i do... the rebel is smaller and lighter than comparable cameras. for someone who hikes and camps, this is great. i'd really like it to be more sturdy though.
