honeestly, take your sanctimonious bullshit elsewhere.
Naomi Klein has exploited your cash from your wallet with nearsighted McMemes and brainwashed you into believing in a utopian hipster wetdream.
Grow up, learn a few things about the global economy, move out of your parents basement and then come tell me I'm "part of the problem".
If you knew anything about design then you'd know that the most challenging problems requrie the most elegant solutions in order to have any sort of profound effect. Your "No Logo" neo-hippie rhetoric is just that: all talk, no action.
In closing, SPK, here's my challenge to you: architect a global society free of branding, retailing and consumerism that can be implemented within the next 25 years while still maintaining relative global peace and prosperity.

"nearsighted McMemes"
haha awesome.

i think it's a good book.

I thought it was a boring, unoriginal piece of writing that seems to believe the world can operate as some sort of utopian wonderland where everyone loves each other and Nikes should cost $10 a pair even if they're made in the first world.
Why not just be done with it and read a comic instead.

hey im no ass-ho, i agree
like i said above, wouldnt it be nice to live in a world like that ?
..what would we all be designing tho?
- pascii0
the things that make fun: for cafes, bands, clubs, new tattoo shops - local things u know. wouldn't that be nice?
instead of designing ringtone-like advertising and meetings with people who shat their pants because their bosses are frustrated an hungry for power (they had no sex since 1986 or so, i presume)
i fucking hate advertising for global players.

(Jul 27 05, 00:48)i don't think jevad was referring to you as an asshole. it was probably meant for the dude who started the topic. blackspade is one of the nicest guys around here :)

I do agree it would be nice, but I wonder if we would all be out of a job on account of our principles, I mean there were a lot less designers prior to our rampant consumerism, you know?
Unfortunately the things that make fun often don't pay the over heads Pascii, it's a bastard, but true :'(

well if the new drive for corporate social responsibility (or 'opportunity' depending on who you are talking to) and sustainability moves beyond vacuous rhetoric you may be working towards different ends and still paying the bills.
but at the moment it still is bullshit by a different name
- kelpie0
I'd rather the global market were regulated better, but that wouldn't work either, even before you get into laisser faire economics and all that pish. boo.

(Jul 27 05, 00:45)No it's not, it's simply unreallistic in a money based global economy. It's not star trek.
