The Bush administration and the militant Islamists are playing the same game.
The Republicans want and end the errosion of moral middle America, and to see and end to over libralisation and to regain a moral high ground to bring Americans together. The Islamists don't want the loose morals of Liberal America corrupting islamic states. they also don't like the way america greases the palms of one dictatorship, and condems another if they don't play ball.

- Kiko0
yeah! right on, and people from Pakistan and Afganistan are very welcome!

the problem is that these terrorist acts are causing even liberal folk to think again, but only because its on their own front door. I wouldn't necessaryily call it terrorism more retaliation!
- Kiko0
september 11 was retaliation too!!! Media fuckers

only good thing to come out of it is that I appreciate life, and other people more since all this shit... doesn't make it right... but you have to find some light at the end of the tunnel

Frankly I'm sick of this UK media angle whereby Londoners are portrayed as "standing defiant" against terrorism and "refuse to be beaten" etc etc etc... lets face it, Londoners aren't getting on the train in some mass display of unity and defiance, they are getting on the train out of pure greed and selfishness, people still swear and growl, possibly more so now as the tubes seem busier while certain areas are out of commission. Londoners get on the train because they have to go to work, and will lose their jobs if they said to their boss "I will be in late and leaving early as I need longer for my journey to take a route less likely to be blown up on"
defiance my arse. Making money is what its all about. Making money and saving time.

My point about reactions was not whether the reaction to 9/11 was justified or even well-guided. That is not the point, but some of you harped on it anyway.
The point was, when they hit us, we hit them, and so goes the cycle. The Muslim world has to be able to see this cause-effect relationship to quell the radicals in their own ranks and save themselves from persecution.
I'm not saying it's a 1 way street either. The U.S. has done some horrible things in the name of Capitalism. But random attacks on civilians DOES NOT solve the problem, it only makes it much much worse. I do not understand why the terrorists can't see that, esp. After Iraq and Afghanistan.
Their actions make things so much worse. Nothing has improved for whatever oppression they percieve to exist. It will only continue to get worse with their agitation.
Same with Israel and Palestine. Nothing has improved. The Palestinians just keep losing more land.

And this is not to say the Western World is exempt from some introspection and self-critiquing.
But blowing up a bus is not the way to bring about an intellectual review of a society's behavior.

So you all are still wanting to dumb it down for yourselves so that you can compartmentalize everything into black and white?
I think I can safely assume that this crowd here has also convinced yourselves that humans are the reason for the whole in the Ozone layer? You have convinced yourselves that our pollution is its cause (when no evidence of this exists) based on complete assumption that you once again eat what they feed you and now add Kyoto to your list of what America has done wrong again.
You all fail to remember what really happened before Iraq because the media coverage wants you to forget. They want you to forget that every country, the people and their leaders originally agreed that Iraq needed to be dealt with by force as stated within the UN agreement. It was only until *some* (France, Germany, Russia and China) countries (that later lead the opposition) realized that their contracts with Saddam would be cancelled that their greed took place of law and began the spread of the propaganda you now regurgitate.
I have said this before and I will say it again. Democrats vote and act based on emotions. This is a problem because it is very easy to lead the emotionally driven public whereas Republicans use facts, statistics and history to make solid decisions.
You all have to first get past the shallow emotions which I assume I have already stirred up as you read proving how easy it is to lead you to react as opposed to respond.

Republican, I disagree with the "Republicans are Rational" arguement. That has been dead since Compassionate Convervatism, the Neo-cons, the Religious Right, the people who re-elected Bush.
I know you said you're agnostic or whatever, but the majority of your party is made up of people who blindly believe, with their emotions, in some Superman in the sky telling them what to do.

nice post rep. i think anyone who takes even a slight interest in koyoto can see it makes no diff on pollution(mainly coz it don't include rapidly rising aviation emissions) and europe is being whitewashed into believing they are doing something about it.

fate i won't argue your point because I believe it has a lot of merit. I do however think that the reason for the re-election although is due in part to many Democrats (like myself) who have changed their views and have embraced "logic". I know it sounds very insulting but please understand that I used to argue *with* this crowd until I began to look deep enough without fear of being wrong and this complete outlook has really opened my eyes.
I do not credit (unlike the media) that the Religious Right makes up the majority. I believe they are a loud minority like liberals. 2 extremes none of which is better than the other and both of opposite ends of the spectrum that argue from emotion and put aside "logic" and "common sense". Both the liberals and the religious right believe so deeply that the other "side" is the cause and will defend that belief until they die.
I believe both extreme sides (religious right and the liberals) need to start listening to one another and stop judging. We live on a small planet together and must learn to embrace each others differences while at the same time remain open to the possibility that what we have always believed may in fact be all wrong.

why should 'liberals' buy into religion when there are churches that excommunicate people for being liberal?
