- jdcomba0
no, but really, montauk is good. but in jersey, i used to surf belmar all the time. i like it. and you can take the train there if need be. but beware of surfers on east coast, they can be bitches.

if i can get there by train, that'd be the best. that's the thing about living in manhattan... sucks!
can i get to montauk by train, what about rockaway beach?
when i was in outer banks last week, my buddies and i were trying to surf. it's was really hard but almost picked up a few. now i kinda wanna push myself and really learn.

yeah, that's sick. i grew up surfing the jersey shore. im sure you can take the train to somewhere in long island that's surfable, but i'm not sure. if you go from penn station to newark penn station, there's a train that goes all along shore points in nj.
just have fun with it.

wish i have a truck or suv. that'll make things easier.
- jdcomba0
yeah it would. rent a car. check out that surfshop in the city, http://www.newyorkpipedreams.com… maybe they do trips or something? they'll have helpful info for you. i bet you could go somewhere out by coney island. you could take subway.

Otherwise the Jersey coast.

get a POS car, drive out to Long Island—the surf out there beats the shore most of the time—at least in terms of consistency and strength. Generally find that LI has a stronger shoulder overall, and there are definitely some waves you can find by just tooling around in the car looking for breaks.
Then go south to NC, get out on the banks, or go north to RI where there is plenty of good surf as well.
Hurricane season is upon us and this gets to be the best time of year...

I lived on a island off the coast of NC in the outerbanks, hurricane season we got some nice swells.

rhode island is sick, its more interesting to surf there, as is NH, but it's friggin freezing up there.

nah, it aint that cold in RI, especially not this time of the year. If you’re on the East Coast, nrth of the carolinas, you know cold water and get used to it.
Its trunks season now. I’m a Cape Codder myself, so every step south is a bit warmer...

take the train out to islip, i'll pick you up, drive you to montauk, show you the places to surf and stop by any surfshops on the way if you need to go.

Jersey shore is the way to go. I was just there last week, Beach Haven, LBI. Surf was terrible though, too windy. And Saturday afternoon there were THOUSANDS of dead fish in the water. Couldn't take it!
*They think a fishing boat cut their net... Shit was NASTY!
