get a POS car, drive out to Long Island—the surf out there beats the shore most of the time—at least in terms of consistency and strength. Generally find that LI has a stronger shoulder overall, and there are definitely some waves you can find by just tooling around in the car looking for breaks.
Then go south to NC, get out on the banks, or go north to RI where there is plenty of good surf as well.
Hurricane season is upon us and this gets to be the best time of year...
