i remember reading the Illuminatus! trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson, and laughing my head off when he cast Ayn Rand as one of the 'bad guys'....he pretty much took the piss out of her in that book..
read a bit about her after that, just to understand her a bit more..
very educated, lots to say obviously...tho i get the feeling i probably wouldn't want to spend a weekend at a cottage listening to her ...

i hope you like...

star with the fountainhead - atlas is a bit trying at times. better to start light and then get heavy.

im a huge rand fan. her narrative is pretty poor, but it gained her a huge audience. her most prolific works (besides galt's speech) are her philosophy books.
get ahold of "the objectivist lexicon", which is compilation of her books put into a conceptual index, like a dictionary.
btw, i dont think she dated wright. she hated his school when she visited it.

i'm surprised with all this talk no one brought up her husband

" THe Fountainhead" was my beginning. It caused me to question my life, my values, my choices; it led me to the philosophy of objectivism and to psychology of Nathaniel Branden. Through those life became knowable for me. And, it was no longer scary.
If it can do for you, just one half of what it did for me, I will be satisfied! "
Handwritten on the cover of the used book I bought.

I've read Atals Shrugged, The Fountainhead and We The Living (in that order). for some reason, Anthem just doesn't sound appealing to me. So i've started on her non-fiction. I'm about half-way through Philosophy, Who Needs It?
I have also looked at joining some Objectivist forums but, as I stated in a previous thread, forums that don't have the instant response like NT suck bung hole rim for me.

i like her book. though i thought atlas shrugged was a bit too preachy for my own taste.

ayn rand = crazy bitch.

i liked both Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead. although AS is a bit on the preachy side, i enjoyed the the storyline and the characters more than those in the FH. i tell people that, if your going to read AS, make sure you get past the first 80 pages or so if your thinking about giving up on it. more than any other book i've come across, that one definitly has a hump.

Really? you guys thought Atlas was too preachy? The only part that I thought was a bit much was Galt's 4-day speech in terms of being dry. See, i find more people that are like Dagny's brother than not, so to me it was a natural thing.

Oh yeah, I was lurking at one of the Objectivist site and I guess there's a big to-do about the first "sex" scene in Fountainhead. It bothers a lot of people.

i thought she a sexy little vixen personally.."here Ayn, objectify this!!!"
Oh, sweet, sweet, Ayn...
- mayo0
oh yeah, you know she was a naughty vixen. Her sex scenes are sexy.
- dopepope0
what happens in the first sex scene?

Don't scroll if you don't want me to spoil it!
In The Fountainhead, it comes off rather "rape-y" to many people. It was argued back and forth in the forum about setting the tone of the relationship therefore not considered rape-y and being disturbing enough that some of the people would skip that section when rereading the book.

her husband, who broke up with her, i believe is nathaniel branden or something like that, one of our most important psychologists...wrote the 6 pillars of self esteem and its funny how many times he references her in his literature that is actually a "pillar" of psychological books
- dopepope0
so maYo, as a woman, do you consider it rape-y?
