Anyone here a fan? Read her books (i.e. the Fountainhead, We the Living, or the Anthem)? I have often heard of both architects and designers say her books have changed their lives... quite a bold statement...

ayn rand is amazing. Atlas Shrugged and the fountainhead are both of my favorite books of all time

Fountainhead:
I found every character in the book was over-acting which made it hilarious to read.
A very modernist book.I wonder what the movie is like?

what's a good one to start with that won't be a waste of my time?

I loved Atlas Shrugged.
Her "philosophy,"Objectivism, is really interesting as well."The Virtue of Selfishness" is also good as well as "Philosophy: Who needs it?"

Atlas Shuragged is a little too preachy for me. but i thought Fountainhead was great. When I read it, I was studying architecture so it helped a lot.

scarabin, they basically say the same thing. but atlas shrugged is longer and includes her full masters thesis as a 100 page speech.
i'd say go fountainhead.

A friend gave me the Fountainhead before I left chicago and consider it my all time fav book and quite the inspiration to design just to design... I have heard the actor that plays Roark in the movie does an excellent job... but have yet to see it...

uberdesigner, once you get past the first 100 pages of fountainhead, you will thank us...

scarabin, the anthem is 99 pages, and a good intro to objectivism and her philosophy on self, etc.

WHAT IS YOUR PHILOSOPHY?
haha .. i always laugh when i remember that line in the movie 'the passion of ayn rand' (which was horrible).
i always wanted to know more about her involvement with frank lloyd wright. didn't they date?
- ********0
whoa they dated?
i had just heard that she based the character of Howard Roark loosely around him.

i would go so far as to say The Fountainhead is a required read for anyone in the field of design. Ayn Rand is a great storyteller with something to say.

highly agreed, an essential...

the Fountainhead - is one of my all time favorite books - if we could only aspire to be like Howard Roark.
