I just wondered if anybody knew the steps/process that I have to go through to be allowed to work in the US.
I'm working for a great agency atm, but just want more, and I have always wanted to work in America, so any handy tips would be great
Thanks!

So you're from the UK. Go to a US Embassy and talk to them. The regulations for this are always changing. Chances are if you land in the US with your non-visa required passport, you'll be able to find some group that would be willling to put you on their payroll under the table or you will have to apply for a Social Secuirty # so you can be legally taxed.

I went in on an H1B Visa. Was a major hassle to sort out. You need to be sponsored by a company to get this visa and it cost the company about 5k (to do the express route and hire a lawyer etc). There are also some other visa options but none of them are easy. The H1B was valid for 3 years but I had enough after a year and came back.

wasn't there a movie about this with Eddie Murphy? something in america?
anyway, from what my cousin has been through, getting a visa is a pain right now. also make sure everything is all set before you actually start planning to head out.

What do you have to supply to the embassy? Passport obviously but what about educational certificates and such?

you have to give them at the very least your past 10 years worth of work places, living addresses, and 5 references..not to mention the piles of papers you ahve to fill out
hey piers why'd you leave? how's barco?

I been through this process several times, I'm from argentina, and I been working in SD for around 5 years now.
I came here on a J1 visa, and now I'm waiting on a H1B1. There are several visas you need to check with one you can apply for.
basically You need to get hired by a company before entering the states.
And they have to sign the papers for you to be considered to be able to work. It's been a pain in the ass for me. good luck!
