Atheism vs Theism? Makes no sense.
Agnosticism is the natural resting place for the modern, inquisitive person.
- Agnostics are either atheists or theists; there are no exceptions.i_monk
- They are? Can you explain?********
- One is a statement of belief, the other of knowledge.i_monk
- An agnostic neither adheres to a belief, nor pretends to have the knowledge of how the universe truly workslocustsloth
- Because there is no definitive answer, the agnostic is comfortable saying "i don't know" and moves on to more immediate matterslocustsloth

Maybe the idea of an original creator is meaningless before the existence of time and space. The same way we can't visualize ten dimensions, we can't imagine something happening without a cause but that doesn't mean it's not possible. So maybe the basic forces of reality just always existed without anything or anyone creating them. That's a weird idea to wrap your head around, but so is the idea of a beginning coming from nothing.
- It interesting pondered that. Also prospect of time being different for the macrocosmyurimon
- Who invented space? Time only exists because we evolved the ability to create memories, right? RIGHT????********

doesnt it all boil down to the spark - the initial point of creation. if there is a god surely thats the point at which their influence ended - that would please both camps as no one can explain the origin of everything... i certainly dont believe the persistent guidance of a divine being bearing in mind that we're only one planet out of a universe... seems like a lot of micromanagement otherwise.
- This was popular in the founding of the country, but it still requires do diligence of free will to natural law action. http://www.etymonlin…yurimon

In the US the Catholic Bishops tightened up their health care guidelines in 2009 to make feeding tubes obligatory even for those who will never recover and who have stated in writing that they do not want this. Hospitals and nursing homes do not have to comply with requests that are “contrary to Catholic moral teaching”, and this applies to non-Catholic patients as well. [8] State-subsidised Catholic institutions can force unwilling non-Catholics to “live” for years in a permanent vegetative state.

The lavish homes of American archbishops
Records reveal that 10 of the country's top church leaders defy the Pope's example and live in residences worth more than $1 million.

Astonishingly, a previous poll by Pew suggested respondents in the US regarded atheists as less trustworthy than rapists. One of Atheist TV's new phone-in programmes, The Atheist Experience, has already had a taste of how many Americans perceive "non-believers".
"So you were studying to be a minister, and now you don't believe in God? You're the devil," one caller tells the host. "You're a Marxist, you're an atheist and you're from Russia," says another.
- The most stupid ones are usually the callersmonospaced
- Something not quite right about atheists coming together like that ... feels almost hypocritical.MrT
- if you're assuming non-belief is a belief-system on par with religion, then it might seem hypocriticalmonospaced
- but that's an incorrect assumption, because a cause is not a belief systemmonospaced
- It's a belief, whichever way you look at it mono. 'Cause' is such a PR persons catch-all word.Morning_star
- Not believing does not require belief. It's belief in something supernatural that requires belief. Sorry.monospaced
- An atheists assertion is that 'Gods do not exist", correct?Morning_star
- Yes. Kinda like we don't believe in the tooth fairy or magic elves either.monospaced
- Or how Christians don't believe in Zeus, or Thor.monospaced
- Belief shouldn't be required to accept they don't exist. Acknowledging non-existence is not a belief.monospaced
- Perhaps belief isn't the right word. Faith? I can make up a monster right now and I wouldn't expect you to believe it exists.monospaced
- Mono, You dogmatic ways make you sound like an ignorant jock. Stop anthropomorphisingyurimon
- shit you dont know or havent explored.yurimon
- I cannot be sure either way. I don't know for certain that god(s) do not exist. Yet you can claim for certain god(s) do not exist because the universe is material and humans are just biological robots. Is that about right?Morning_star
- Yet you can claim for certain god(s) do not exist because the universe is material and humans are just biological robots. Is that about right?Morning_star
- about right?Morning_star
- Can you claim there's no tooth fairy for certain?monospaced
- I can. And yurimon, I'm not anthropomorphizing, I'm just making a point about believing in mythsmonospaced
- You can? How?Morning_star
- Mono Name and tell me a story of myth you know. complete myth story. You follow indoctrinated misconceptions?yurimon
- Alot of old myths are rearanged and given modern vocabulary. example Freud and young in psychology. r they full o shit?yurimon

Had a dark thought process the other day about what happens when we die. Imagining not existing, your consciousness void, there being nothing. Absolutely nothing. Which isn't that hard... it'd be like that moment when you are asleep and not in REM... just blackness, you are not even aware or awake of existing at the point. Or the time before you were born.... NOTHING. Scary. Dark.
Maybe there is something. But I got into this spiral of thought on the idea of nothing.
- You are still 'experiencing' even though its blackness, and therefore you 'know' you're not dead. 'I think therefore I am'.Morning_star
- except your dead, so you don't thinkmoldero
- You still have self reflection. I always wondered the type of consciousness that exist.yurimon
- Intelliboy said 'Imagine not existing'. My point is, you can't.Morning_star
- I had a thought much like this back in my drug-taking days. Sense without input would be the dict. def. of Hell, imho.detritus

You go out on a blind date.
You have a nice dinner together.
She's very good looking, funny, good to talk with and you seem to get along well.
You go have a drink in a club afterwards and dance a bit.
Everything seems to go just fine, which doesn't mean you'll have sex that night or that you must have sex just because it's going really well the night and date or vice-versa.
You're together dancing in the middle of the dance floor and suddenly this Gangham Style or whatever this Korean piece of shit music is called starts playing.
You want to stop dancing but your date looks at you totally out of this earth in joy and starts dancing the song with those moves from the video and smiling at you totally in ecstasy...
What do you do?A - You smile back and continue to dance
B - You puke.
C - You excuse yourself and go to the toilet
D - You pray to God to help you out- If you are having a good time and into each other moment is lost and the rhythm is between you and heryurimon
- Question, are you a head person? thinking alot very, thinking oriented?yurimon

^ Pascals Wager
- "God is, or He is not"
- A Game is being played... where heads or tails will turn up.
- According to reason, you can defend neither of the propositions.
- You must wager (it is not optional).
- Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is. Let us estimate these two chances. If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing.
- Wager, then, without hesitation that He is. (...) There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain, a chance of gain against a finite number of chances of loss, and what you stake is finite. And so our proposition is of infinite force, when there is the finite to stake in a game where there are equal risks of gain and of loss, and the infinite to gain.
But some cannot believe. They should then 'at least learn your inability to believe...' and 'Endeavour then to convince' themselves.

Questine:
Can we all agree that ,the bible, the quran, the thora , book of the dead etc, are all written by humans?
So, god never wrote any of those?
Then, what make those scripture legits according to believers?
This is still something that is coming out of a human brain, like any story? What about in 2000 years, for some reasons , all books and humans writings are gone and forgotten.
Still, a copy of Starwars script is found by archeologist.
Will people believe in the forces as a new religion, saying that this is the truth?- you said it, belief. "they" believe it to be the truth...sine
- Aside from the possibilities of doctrine, I mean any doctrine of belief being used for manipulation. id sayyurimon
- that best approach for truth is to try to understand natural law. most common form we experience of this is cause and effect..yurimon
- effect. Regardless of belief if your actions are wrong the effect will come. Thats how civilization come n go.yurimon
- In that being said. spirtual practice in its purest form is an attempt to be unified with divine sources, mind youyurimon
- which has always been an introspective journey until modern times. which is dis empowering for control.yurimon
- but i dont think one system has everything. some are more practice in certain practices some are not.yurimon
- < er practicalyurimon
- Morning_star0
No we can't agree.
Those that have a religion would explain it as god speaking through the scribes. Like being possessed.
- That makes a lot of possessed people, regarding that they have not been written by one single man....ApeRobot
- God was into possessing people to write it, for a hundred years. Then he stopped.monospaced
- One single man speaking/writing through lots of people is a simple but accurate explanation.Morning_star
- What would you say the propose of a practice from these doctrine in its original intent?yurimon
- Why not , writing the whole shit once for all? We're talking about god the all mighty, god doesn't have to think about stuffs...ApeRobot
- But that was also priests claiming special ability to be connected or being chosen?yurimon
- stuffs....he is the creator....ApeRobot
- Ape, I think you are trying to fit modern explanations of god to ancient experiences. Christianity, Judaism, Islam etc are not the first beliefs by any stretch of the imagination. They are not eve the first organised religions but a jumble of many different influences. The earliest spiritual beliefs were tens of thousands of years before those and were probably explanations used by pre homo-sapiens.Morning_star
