I am setting up a loose contract for a client, what should I include.. This is after I've already done work, but they want one now.. Interesting.
They've made me revise the site like 4 times over, after the original quote for 500 bucks (for a flash site) was agreed upon. By revise, I mean finish it 80% and then make me do it again, because they didn't like it.. How can I make it so that can affect the quote ?
Any help setting this contract up would be awesome.

Break the project down into stages and make the client sign-off on each stage before proceeding to subsequent stages.
Make sure the client knows that changes to signed-off stages will incur extra fees eg. $$/hour.
- Solid0
Also set a max number of revisions eg. "for $$ you get x number of revisions".
Additional revisions should incur extra fees.

how many revisions do you think is fair for 500 bones ?
- Solid0
No more than 1.

500?
show me the site... if you underbid this shit - you're fucking the rest of us and I'm going to come through this computer and revoke your macromedia s/n.
- Solid0
PS I'm assuming the project your talking about is the one I saw, in which case 1 revision.
Reason I say is because you could be working on a 'simpler' project for $500, in which case you might adjust/increase the num of revisions ...
- Solid0
PonyBoy is right, tho -- you should have quoted a higher amount ...

I'm wondering why they want you to make a contract now...

no kidding.. .something smells filthy here - I wouldn't oblige to making any formal contract... and I'd also perhaps give them a friendly 'threat' by way of questioning their purpose for a contract...
... DON'T LET THEM FUCK YOU... for $500... it sounds like they already have and they're going to now get shadier. I'm tired of designers LETTING themselves get taken advantage of! why? I really don't give a shit if you want to work for free... BUT I DON'T.
GET TOUGH DAMNIT! :)

This link might help, but i'm not sure. I remember looking for a invoice before, but I can't find that link.

here she is. I know I am getting fucked for 500 dollars, I don't think they understand that. I don't think they have any idea how much work this takes.
The reason I quoted so low is because one of the guys is a friend, whom I lived with for a year. I figured the whole thing would be really lax and loose.
Truth be told, the dude who "runs" the crew has been nothing but a pain in the ass, making me fix things that I presented and were "ok" a month ago. It's all a pain in the ass. I really don't know what they expect. I figured it would be a quick in and out.
What should I do ?

that's a killer link ArtDirector, thanks.

Tell them if how much work is going into it, and that if they want more changes they'll have to pay more. Be firm on that. Yeah, most importantly, be firm.
- brains0
yeah, gad. I don't like this situation at all.
I think they want a contract now because I asked for an advance.
- ArtDirector0
You should take 1/3 or half up front before you start anything.

first off, brains...
what you've done so far... HOT. :)
this is 'pony approved'.
My suggestion is what I said earlier. You've more than done the job here (shit... a jpg comp of this is worth more than 500 - that's some solid intellectual property there, good sir).
Don't create a contract - DO NOT put up with shady mother-fuckers. The site is cool - seems like a creative group of folks to be in with... but if they're not going to respect you w/a solid monetary payment... strong-arm 'em. Don't finish it.. don't do a thing but lay it out for them. (don't be an asshole when doing this!!... always the pro!)
Tell 'em:
1.) What I've done far exceeds my compensation thus far...
2.) Creating a contract now that I've DONE the work is backwards.
3.) Require some sort of immediate compensation when they sign the contract - don't let them fuck you with a peice of paper - people still don't pay even while under contract... you must have money up front before you continue forward.
I'd put in some sort of stipulation that requires 1/3 or 1/2 payment (depending on the size of the project) before beginning any work.
... or one last suggestion - probably the way to go too... DUMP THEM.
Lick your wounds - let them have what's online and walk. It's not worth your time if they don't want to take care of you like you're taking care of them.
- brains0
I realize that now, bah. From now on I'm doing the contract dance.

ArtDirector - let's be partners. :) I'm sick of working with dopes who afraid to ask for just compensation. grrrrr.
- brains0
To be honest ponyboy, this was not what I expected for this site to be. I really am taking that advice in stride. I am trying to make a decision. I need the money, regardless how shitty it is, I still need to eat. I am working out a contract that will seal things up a little better from now on.
Dumping them would be awesome. This has been such a pain in the ass overall, and they don't realize that.. They just expect more. For 500 bucks ?!
I'm torn here. I want the money, but frankly I want alot more.
- ArtDirector0
haha, I'm no expert on freelancing, it's just something I do on the side. Seems like there's a lot more work lately.
