speak the truth and cause it what it may

you will gain much respect for stepping up and say your opinion
hiding behind emails wont

Face to face is best.
Email shows no attonation and is subjective to the readers mood, attitude, and general knowledge of the subject. You have no control as soon as you hit send. FACT.
You are scared becuase you have not yet thought out precisely the way to communicate what you have to say.
Practise makes perfect. Prepare yourself to discuss things constructively with a positive outcome for the work place.
Make your points and back them up with facts. Leave all of the unecessary emotion in your practise sessions. Speak your mind.
Be prepared for promotion or expulsion.

dont be scared. you'll be fine.
i found i got more respect for being honest. Get to the point, say what you mean and mean what you say. Don't doubt yourself for a second, and they'll either fall in line and get with the program or tell you to fuck off. Either way, you'll get what you needed.

drink some red bull and tell it to his face

Also, they'll probably more shaken from you than you are from them, if you just put your game face on.
It's a wonder what you can get when you just ask (then slam your fist on the desk and squint).

'the material girl' has a point.

you guys are amazing...
it's hard, even boys have emotions too, mexican boys for that matter.
FUCK SHIT!
sorry, thanks you guys...it's kinda turned into just anger...i don't like it...when everything was right i would have been at work still looking at another 4 am night. =\
- shellie0
You should definitly put your emotions away on this one. Do not be angry. Do not be sad. Do not come off as hurt. Don't allude to or even say anything of the sort. Do not be anything. Just state the facts and walk away. Werd.

once you have tried it, you will discover how easy it all went and how a fucking good feeling it is...
first time i did it, i felt 3 feet taller when i walked outta the boss office
- notso0
The first time I did the face-to-face at my first job, I got sacked, a long story but I stood up for myself. At first I felt sad but soon after I feel fine as I wasn't exactly happy there either.
Encouragement from others (like here @ NT) is one thing, but knowing how to put it accross that don't effect your dignity and at the same time save your face if anything goes ugly would be the key. I'd suggest tell a few close friends first and see what they think (and have all the possible answers worked out first) before confront your boss.
So, what's bugging you?

well it all starts when i get laid off after the .com stuff and i'm thirsty for a job. i meet these two workaholics and they seem cool, so of course i sort have something to prove because it was a new industry for me. (production stuff pretty much at first) everything is good then, i'm learning a new craft, i'm getting paid shit but now i have something to concentrate on. that's when it's now 3 years later and i'm questioning why i have ignored my life. i like to do things other than work every week till 3, 4am. i was zonking myself out and for no good reason. i want them now to prove something to me, either take all i've given and secure it or throw it all away and not hire the help we need, or the more money i deserve to be making as a "creative director.
things have to change.
*tips hat to k77

No shit k77 that was some kick ass research with providing that perfect kick ass quote.
swollenelbow make sure to get some sleep before making your point.

agreed about firing off emails in the heat of anger... those can piss people off real fast.
i think you've certainly put your time and are owed much respect. especially for being there in the begining. sit back write that email you want to send. then pull from it the key points and get those on paper. walk in the office and discuss.
hope all goes well.
