In the next few days, the House of Representatives will vote on whether to slash funding for NPR (National Public Radio) and PBS (Public Broadcasting Service). Already, the public outcry has delayed the effort to eliminate funding entirely, but the proposed cuts would still cripple NPR and PBS. The cuts threaten programs like "All Things Considered," "NOW," "Sesame Street," "Fresh Air," "The Charlie Rose Show," "Clifford the Big Red Dog," “Arthur,” “Religion and Ethics,” etc.
In an era of corporate media, public broadcasting is one of the last places you can find insightful journalism and educational content. Quality costs money and corporate owners are too willing to sacrifice good programming to save a buck.

As long as they don't take out PBS away, I'm ok with it.

Now be gone with you spammer!

i wouldn't really consider it 'spam' since it is true. it is a serious issue.

Where's the thread about orgies by the way?

no spam here. my friend told me yesterday about what might happen and i thought that i would do alittle something to try and help . Although I dont particulalry watch or listen to PBS/NPR I do believe they are worth being continued, the former more so for future generations and NPR because it does manage interesting content now and again.

(Jun 21 05, 23:23)If canceling "Car Talk" makes America more frightening to you then you might want to get out a bit more often.
- lvl_130
i watch it quite often actually...well, when i watch tv anyways. i really like to watch the programming on saturday mornings when i eat breakfast.
- lvl_130
oh, and if i'm not listening to the ipod in the car, npr is the only other thing i listen to. probably at least an hour a day.

can anyone name more than 5 shows off the top of their head?
i can think of two excercise shows. one of an old lady in a chair that is always on and another like body electric or something.
will you really miss those cause everytime i'm flipping through those are on.
- lvl_130
haven't seen those. i prefer the cooking shows, home improvement, documentaries, etc.
are you sure you are watching the right channel : )

AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!

NewsHour is the best news out there, period. It's actually objective and PBS still seems to care about something called 'journalism'.
This is about much more than Sesame Street and CarTalk, although both are really fantastic programming. This is more about the Bush administration's CPB lapdog Ken Tomlinson's quest to kill progressive media - which these days seems to be anything not mSm. btw - MediaMatters has a good explanation of the recent happenings, and is advocating a campaign called 'hands off public broadcasting' - check it here : http://mediamatters.org/handsoff…
So, this is definitely not spam - we may actually lost public tv and public radio. To me, public broadcasting is one of the last places that truly cares about and reports on the happenings in creative communities, design included. We should all just take a moment and give your Congressman/woman & Senators a call and tell them HANDS OFF PUBLIC BROADCASTING.
