boot up off the CD/DVD and run disk utility?
norton is evel kenievel, there is Diskwarrior3...

don't ever run norton on OSX EVER!!! i've been using norton for almost 10 years and have loved it but it'll fuck your machine now. they no longer support mac and have stopped making it for mac. at best you'll fix a few problems and loose some files, at worst you'll corrupt the system and fuck the disk (kinda).
if you use anything use diskwarrior. it rocks. (hold option to choose 'scavenge' in the main panel window if you accidently already ran nortons or similar)
if you don't have that, boot off the OSX install disk and using the disk utility (it's in the file menu when you first get the 'choose a language' screen) and firstly run the varify & fix disk option and then the varify & fix permissions option.
norton was great when you needed to defrag the actual dru=ive but with the advent of a Unix based OSX you simply defrag the sections of system that link all knowledge of all files whic is done with the repair permissions bit.
you'll be cool then.

Try removing the Applications Preferences files...
Found: Users/YourUserName/Library/Prefe...
These are the files
com.apple.iApps.plist
com.apple.iCal.plist
com.apple.garageband.plist
com.apple.iDVD.plist
com.apple.iPhoto.plistPlus any other relevant one.
This should work?

Our tecchy guy, Tony who sorts our studio out says not to use Norton as it writes it's own language/code onto your system and poor old Mr mac get's all confused or something like that.
I have run Norton on osx, just for the laugh, to see what happens.
It says it's found problems and asks 'do you want to fix them?'
Reply: Fix All.
If you run Norton agin, immediately after, the same problems are identified.
I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but I suspect that Norton hadn't fixed the 'problems' at all.
Better of verifying disk permissions once a week and wipe your disk and re-install evey six months (or less if you thrash it!!) and everything should be tickety-boo!

Also NEVER use norton.
A good thing to do on a frequent basis is to Repair Disk permissions.
You can do this by using Disk Utility found the the utilitys folder.

thank you all...
let's see what happens..!

OK...
there was an error on the disk... now repaired...
there were some permissions that were wrong... now repaired...
but the same bloody problem is still there..!
