    don't ever run norton on OSX EVER!!! i've been using norton for almost 10 years and have loved it but it'll fuck your machine now. they no longer support mac and have stopped making it for mac. at best you'll fix a few problems and loose some files, at worst you'll corrupt the system and fuck the disk (kinda).

    if you use anything use diskwarrior. it rocks. (hold option to choose 'scavenge' in the main panel window if you accidently already ran nortons or similar)

    if you don't have that, boot off the OSX install disk and using the disk utility (it's in the file menu when you first get the 'choose a language' screen) and firstly run the varify & fix disk option and then the varify & fix permissions option.

    norton was great when you needed to defrag the actual dru=ive but with the advent of a Unix based OSX you simply defrag the sections of system that link all knowledge of all files whic is done with the repair permissions bit.

    you'll be cool then.
