Mike Tyson will still knock out everybody in this thread. Yes, the man is an animal; but boxing is not a sport of tranquility and good manners either. He's mentally and physically built to fight. IMO, I think he should have retired a long time ago, but I also believe that the debt kept him in it.

true point5, people knock him now because of what he's become but in his prime, he was the baddest mutherfucker
i heard he needed something like 7 fights to get out of debt

he was a great fighter against inferior competition. It was easy to believe the hype when all he fought were tomatoes.
against real boxers like lewis and even evander he was a joke.
- mattyd0
if he fought lewis and evander when he was supposed tto - in his prime - he would have taken them both out. even lewis said he was scared shitless of him back then (they both trained with d'ammata at one point - d'ammata proclaimed when they were both 17 that they would be the best in boxing)
to say he fought tomatoes would be an unfair assement because during his title run, he fought all worthy contenders, he just made them look like fucking pansies.

D'amato...PRAISE BE TO ALLAH

sorry, i know a d'ammata, get the names confused.
forgiveness please!

MATTYD STILL GETS PROPS!
I don't think it's fair to characterize tyson as someone who fought only 'Tomato Cans', I do think it is fair to say that the guy was victimized by bad management who really didn't care about anything but ca$h.
It is undeniable that this one time exciting fighter is finished....but we all know that there is no getting rid of this guy he will continue to come back...

haha, thanks man.
i also agree with you 100% with tyson. i grew up watching him fight and it was really sad to watch him end his career like that.
my all-time favorite tyson memories were his fights leading up to and during his title run where he would sprint from the corner at the opening bell and unleash the fury. was truly something to behold.

granted, he did demolish everyone that he faced whether they were worthy or not...but to call yourself the baddest man on the planet yet duck all challenges by the Rickson Gracies was laughable.

"against real boxers like lewis and even evander he was a joke."
it was also late in his career, check him when he was 20-23

I walked into a car dealership in tampa about 5 years ago and the salesman who greeted me was Tyrell Biggs. We talked about tyson and boxing in general for about an hour...Tyrell got SMACKED!!! But if you really want to see someone get completly K.O'd look for Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Davey BOy Green....

he never boxed well against guys who had the balls to hit back
- tonx0
that is a good point...
Another gem from Tyson was his TV interview where he responded quite candidly to the question of who he hit the hardest in his career.
Mike's response: One time I hit RObin and she bounced off every room and ceiling in my 47 room mansion.
He was talking about his wife Robin Givens. A classic.

mattyD, thanks for the vid and for the insights, but I still say Tyson wasn't a "boxer", which becamme painfully obvious when he fought boxers who could last more than one round and outhink him as the rounds wor on. Tyson just didn't have he head to be a boxer. He was more than just a slugger - he had art and style, but he wasn't a boxer like Ali, Frazier or even Holyfield who had game.

dude just cant get a break.
