props to mattyd...not many people know that tyson is one of boxing's great historians. There are not too many people with his knowledge of the 'history of boxing' today.
As far as tyson being 'strength' over 'strategy' that is dead wrong.
Young Mike Tyson was a boxing machine that combined strength, strategy, and conditioning to get to the top of his game. It was when he was at the top of his game that he became distracted, victimized, and largely ignored what he had been taught his whole life.
I stopped feeling sorry for mike after the holyfield fiasco. Anyone who continually loads up a right uppercut is going to miss and get KO'd 70% of the time.
I as a 16-17 year old used to go to tournaments and watch a 16 year old tyson clean house. I'll never forget him KO-ing a 23 year old heavyweight from my gym. He was awesome to watch.
Now the things that made him so terrifying create an odd caricature of what a world champ shouldn't be.
On a positive note Sugar Ray Leonard looked and sounds great in the contender. It doesn't hurt at all to watch and listen to him, [the series' cheesyness aside] this is how I want to remember my favorite fghters.

I think I can beat Mike Tyson.

btw -t yson was never convicted of rape...

Tyson was a good fighter, although he wasn't a "boxer" IMHO.
Tyson wasn't pretty, and he was willing to take a shot, get inside and fight from there. Not alot of boxers were good infighters and most didn't want to take a shot like Tyson was willing to in his heyday.
Tyson got burned by the people around him and I feel for on that, but I agree after the ear biting I lost alot of respect for the guy. That had nothing to do with anyone around him, that was all him and his teeth

damn tyson

that fight was a waste. Up until Mike tried to break his arm. It was a little sad to watch him just give up and realize his career was over.

was tyson even close to being one of the best fighters ever?
look at the competition ali had it was way tougher than tysons. tyson fought one tomato after another, the boxers in tyson's era were so weak that foreman came back out of retirement and won the title for fuck sakes.
the only fights he had against legit opponents, he got his ass handed to him.

(Jun 13 05, 09:44)tyson was a great 'boxer'. what i loved most about him was that he would fight with his chin tucked into his chest and he butt practically on the ground as he bobbed and weaved looking to 'push the button' (land a shot square on the jaw) which he definitely did in his pre-buster douglas heyday.
no one could 'push the button' better than tyson in his prime. not even forman, ali, or frazier.

here is a video clip of one of the early 20th century fighters that tyson modelled himself after. the guy is sam langford, the greatest boxer to never win a title (he was black and no blacks were allowed to fight whites for the title. also, the owner of the black title - jack johnson - wouldnt fight him because he was too afraid he's lose).
this man was a pure boxing machine and in this clip you can definitely tell tyson derived much of his style from him.
the clip is also cool because it was taken back in the time of the winding movie camera, so its cool to watch in that respect.

Is a little bitch. I watched the fight and laughed at his end comments.

it was so boring compared to him and lewis!
who else won money?!

there was no competition for Mike when he was younger, there was competition but not for Mike he was on a whole other level, watch the first 20-25 tyson fights, completely dominate. could break your jaw with a slap.
The man was a beast until he got in with the wring people, its easy for someone who needs people to show him the way and then he gets people showing him the wrong way to get f'ed up quick like mike did.

remember when he slapped robert downey jr in that movie black & white, i couldn't stop laughing at how genuinely scared downey was
- -ryan_harrell-0
i was scared too and i was just watching the movie
