(Jun 10 05, 03:52)Well it sounds you've got the problem solving bit down - which is good. It's the only way to learn really... You'll eventually have a hand in server configs so all this is good..
I get a strange pleasure out of making webservers do stuff. Strange eh?

same thing here moth, i can't remember when i was logged in as root or just as (mwahahahahaaa) admin.
that's something i never understood btw, well i do, but still it's MY machine, so I AM root and not just "admin". reminds me of one of my favorite geek quotes i've seen on a shirt: bow for me, for i am #root.

yeah i think it harks back to old UNIX and stuff.... admin on OSX let's you do fuck all really.
we had an old RaQ and by logging in as ROOT we invalidated the warranty........... go figure.
- rabattski0
i think it's just that as root you can do evil stuff w/ out knowing. not really smart if you let the average user be root i guess. apple suggests logging in as root as minimal as possible and i wonder why. could it be possible helpdesk nightmares? i dunno.
that's pretty hardcore btw with that raq of yers.

Yeah the Cobalt RaQ's were bought by Sun. They were bloody good webservers - idiot proof. Web-Based admin the lot - host as many sites as you wish. Then they discontinued it.
As far as I know the new OSX Server is the only product out there that does the multi-site thing. Shame really. I liked the RaQ's.

Sorry to interupt but Do you think I should use Terminal or Text Wrangler then, or should I download the trial of BBEdit.
- rabattski0
well i prefer using the terminal, but editing text is something you really need to know how to, so i suggest using bbedit in your case.

Judging by your take on terminal dancer (or a command prompt as it should be called) I would stay well away from it.
- rabattski0
shouldn't it be called a shell?
- Dancer0
This is scaring me.
Downloading BBEdit now....

shouldn't it be called a shell?

(Jun 10 05, 05:11)I'd could also call it telnet... but whatever it is - it shouldn't be Terminal.
- paraselene0
don't scare dancer like that. i'm sure he can manage it.
- rabattski0
you know what moth, lets call it the application-that-will-prove-you...
:)
dancer, no worries, it's really easy, just uncomment a couple of lines in the htppd.conf, add the .php extension, restart the webserver and you're set to go.
- rabattski0
httpd.conf!!! dammit.

Telnet is the long way around really... text editing is just quicker and easier.

Can someone confirm something for me:

Step number 7.
Is there a return after ".......certain types. For PHP 4.x use: AddType......"Do I put a return where he has?
Also is there meant to be a space before .php on the last line of step 7?
