does anyone ever use apache? i'm struggling to set it up on os 10.3
hm?
- rabattski0
it's standard in mac os x. just activate the webserver.
- determinedmoth0
aye.

i just ticked 'personal web sharing' in the preferences, but i need to know how to edit the apache configuration file because it's not set up to recognize php.
- rabattski0
that's something different parasalene, anyways, don't install php what prolly a lot of people will say here, do this:
- paraselene0
thank you, thank you, thank you!
- rabattski0
btw you can also use BBEdit in order to edit the file and point 5 can also be done by restarting the webservr thru the prefs.
- determinedmoth0
did you make it go?
- rabattski0
must be, so easy to do.
- paraselene0
yeah, that link was actually really helpful, rabbatski. but i'm just putting it all together for the new guy, so i'm not sure if he's genuinely getting his head around it or not. nice enough guy, but not enough sense to pour piss out of a boot.

Ok guess I'm one of theose people cause I can't do step 1 and 2:
1. Figure out how to open text files as root.
2. navigate to or find /private/etc/httpd/Do you just type "/private/etc/httpd/" into Terminal and hit return.
I don't like messing with stuff I know nothing about and could fuck up my configuration.
Help please!
Para I sent you a mail.

first enable root user:
http://docs.info.apple.com/artic…
- rabattski0
and maybe this one's clearer for enabling php (2 ways).
- Dancer0
Thanks Rabb will try this.
- paraselene0
good luck, dancer!
- determinedmoth0
bbedit will let you edit root files without enabling root - i think.
- rabattski0
you could be right moth, i recall that as well, but first thing i always do on a mac osx is to enable root, most of the time i always log in as root (coz it's cool!).
- determinedmoth0
you could be right moth

(Jun 10 05, 03:26)i *could* be. I can't remember if I did this before or after enabling root...
I solved the hidden file thing if anyone's interested...
