- nachkebia0

Sigma 70-300 APO is a good and cheap amateur telephoto lens. It's not fast (4-5.6), but gives very good results.
Try digging here

Sigma make each system version of their lenses with most models. Just look for Nikon mount version.

Also, the new sigma 18-200 is surprisingly good for a lens of this range.

Cool guys thanks,
I'm looking at the Nikon 70-300 ED AF right now.
any argument for a 70-200/210 in the same price range or should there be a big difference?

Rand, the nikon capture 4 software is really nice. I don't know how it compares to canon's but...
You can also control the camera from you computer which is pretty neat... I didn't just say neat did I?

thanks, all--more confused than ever now, though

so I'm thinking Nikon D70S with the 18-70 lens
- kld0
do it, you can't go wrong with either.
- spiralstarez0
good choice.
I've got one, great camera and well designed, great lens for a kit lens too...

if you were going to get a telephoto what woul you add?
- shaft0
sigma 70-300 is good, but remember to get APO version, it's supposed to be better than the other (DL?)one.
70-200 f/2.8 is much better, but costs about the camera price.
- kld0
get this tele + the kit lens

I ordered the Nikon d70s with the kit lens--
thanks to everyone
