I'm thinking about getting a hamster. Pros, cons, experience, tips?
thanks

Go on - cage that defenceless animal for your own amusement!

what are your intentions?

Be cautious to keep your hamster away from houseplants. Most are poisonous and if the hamster nibbles on them, it could be severly sick

I had three gerbils when I was at UNI they were mental, you couldn;t take them out of the cage or they had a fit of somekind and then later on two dissappeared as in the cage was shut and they were not there and the third one stared in a corner until it died, My tip don't get any hamsters or wee critters, I got mine because they were too old to sell and I thought I might be able to give them a bit of a laugh before they died how wrong was I.....

Get a cat (female one): it's independent, intelligent, cute, and fucking bastard, but sweet and with style.

hamster a dull, get a rabbit and let it live like a cat.

Why not sponsor a goat for an African family?
Or donate some money/time to your local wildlife park?
Adopt an orphan for a week!

yep I got a rabbit once and it was quality it used to come when you shouted and it shat in a box for you to help you clean things, nice wee fellow altogether really

My hamster passed away last summer...
he died at the age of 6 (months).R.I.P. Francois
anyhow, the get sick very easy, one cold and their life slips away.
And, their only goal in life is to eat, shit and escape...They are very cheap, so just try one for a while. (only 8,50 Euro!)

yep they are great pets, ours lives free in our house. very very affection and clean.

rabbits generally are quite clean surprisingly they go to the toilet in the same spot and they love getting tickled and stroked, if you turn the wee chap onto his back and put him inbetween your legs as you are sitting down his head at your knees and stroke his soft belly they go into a trance and lay like that for ages cold chillin :D
my Rabbir was called Sandy Pads ( on account of his sandy coloured feet)

Sweet! Disposable Life... get it quick!
Imakedesign - that's cool, man. I wish everyone else let their cute lil' fwuffy cweatures roam around like that... I feel genuinely bad whenever I see some gerbil or hamster couped up in an enclosed cage for any amount of time. Can't imagine the owners would appreciate the same conditions!

I thought about getting a rabbit, but don't they stink up the place, and shit all over?

"Hey, why are you wrapping your hamster with duct tape?"
"Because I don't want it to fall apart when I'll be f**king it!"
- Nairn0
lol shaft - I hear pairs of used tights are just as effective, and come with the added bonus of sexy silk shear...
- chossy0
why are you wrapping the hamster in duct tape
so it last longer when I throw it to my mini colluseum full of kittens dressed in small gladiatorial costume.

I've had rabbits and you can train them to use a litterbox like cats if you're against having your carpets saturated. If you want to have it loose, it's probably wise to keep it confined to a room or two though - at least while you're not home. They like scratch and chew just like cats, so try to keep it in a fabric/wire-free area.
