Anybody have experience either buying or selling ad space?
I'm looking for a general overview of how things work. Books, URLs whatever.

I've bought ad space on a few websites for my clients. For me, the most useful ads are the pay-per-click type which tend to be more cost effective than flat rate ad space.
I've actually stopped advertising on websites and now just use Google AdWords. Much better and less of a hassel to monitor than standard website advertising.

I have used adwords for a client before. Good bet if there is little competition for your keywords. You pay about 2p a click if there is no competition and you can set limits on how much to spend in a week / month / year etc..
No idea how much use it would be with heavy competition.
