I've bought ad space on a few websites for my clients. For me, the most useful ads are the pay-per-click type which tend to be more cost effective than flat rate ad space.
I've actually stopped advertising on websites and now just use Google AdWords. Much better and less of a hassel to monitor than standard website advertising.
