anyway I wasn't trying to be a prick TheTick, eventually will marry a foreign girl (from my days in Africa) as well, but all in due time. The process to get her here is so frustrating it makes me want to puke, but thats the system, so we just adapt to it.

(May 10 05, 07:05)threads take strange bends and turns until ultimately they are either forgor about, brought back by an idiot like myself or deleted because of fighting.

JazX - didn't think you were being a prick at all :)
And yes, I do tend to write these things in a more alarmist tone than where my actual rational thoughts lay - but I am not happy at all with what's going on here in the good old US of A. And the thing I like least - the overarching theme to all of this is that this Administration and Congress are doing everything on a NEed To KNow basis. They are not being transparent and forthcoming, crouching everything in secrecy and not trusting the Average American. They are acting like Nobles and treating US Citizens like serfs and trampling on the very ideals of the Constitution as they do it but mouth "freedom" like it means something to them, and it don't.
The favt they pass htis shit - Real ID acts, transforming bankruptcy laws for the benefit of the banks, etc. without any real public debate or discourse has me screaming bull*hit.
Am I being an alarmist? Man, I HOPE so. And I really would rather fight than get out - but how do you fight this?

politicians don't debate or "discourse" with the public. Their job is govern for the people, not with the people.

watch it, Kona is going to come around and say "love it or leave it"

A way more articulate look at this issue than I can make. A bit dated but still hits pretty close to my opinion on this:

love it or leave it guys.
++++++++++++++++++++ +++Actually, the new saying is more like: Love it or die / or Love it or your with the terrorists.
It's also like leaving a relationship or breaking up. It's sometimes difficult to leave when you remember how great it was being in love with the person in the past, before things went sour.
But regaurdless, there are really more sides to the arguement. On one end it's disturbing to lose so many "freedoms" in so little time, without resonable explanation. On the other hand, you never know if it's for the best. ie. if there is a threat that can't be discussed publicly and our governement is really trying to protect us by taking these measures as frightening as they may seem to us now.
All you can do is hope that the intentions are good for humanity and that while we may be unaware of the reasoning behind such measures at the current time, down the line we will look back and be thankful for them.
I don't subscribe to the "Love it or leave it" mentality though. Citizens should have the right to speak their mind, defend their rights, and contribute to making the county a better place. These are the ideals that America was founded on.

lol kona!
but the truth is that i loved it AND left it. part of me agrees with you, dobs; jumping ship might not be the answer, but for now it's MY answer. i still vote (how many RESIDENT americans bother?) and i still care.
but i don't want to risk staying in the states for so long that i no longer have a choice because the rest of the world institutionialises retaliatory immigration policies that mirror our own.
and that's why kuz and i are getting married.
