Real ID act will pass in congress today. Meanwhile not a peep on the news except about runaway brides and who Ben Affleck is impregnating,
Welcome to Bush's 'Murikkka. And the great Enlightenment experiment that is America goes out like a punk.

it will cut down on forgery and fraudulence, if the card is good enough

we'll be getting them in the UK now that the labourtories are in again.

i'm planning on getting my unique id barcoded and tattooed on the back of my neck so the authorities can save time by just scanning me.

watch out if the cards are rfid, they can track you anywhere there is a sensor. and you will be required to carry your card everywhere. sounds kinda paranoid, but why are these cards needed?

(May 10 05, 06:13)satellites will do the job with or without those cards in the next ten years anyway, they say

u getting them too?
we were gonna get them here, but then we had a general election and labour's majority got slashed. so know they don't have the political muscle to get the bill through.
People power!

unfortunately the people power on this end is apparently fueled by dipshits.

(May 10 05, 06:13)we might not, aren't the lefty backbenchers stronger now that Tory Blair has less of a majority? or is that wishful thinking?

imagine how easy that would be if everyone had the same thing in their pocket, JazX.

hopefully

(May 10 05, 06:16)true you would be able to locate, but what I mean is some type of software that narrows down where you might be and reads the shape of your face. Yeah the cards would make it easier though

we would have to have our faces scanned into a database, which wouldnt happen and sounds quite science fictiony.
RFID is a very real possibility.

Everytime you fly in or out of London your face is now recorded and stored.
If you are arrested (charged or not) you are photographed, fingerprinted and have your dna taken.
The DVLA will have a photograph of you on file if you have a drivers licence.
They will get your details one way or another.

(May 10 05, 06:19)we do have them scanned into a dB. They could get them from state licenses. How do you know they don't do it already? uh uh, but if Google Maps and Keyhole are that good for the publis, think about what resolution the FBI and CIA have things. Just a thought.

From what I read they will be RIFD. Apparently the law doesn't go into effect for three years here in the US just to get the infrastructructure up. Wonder which of Bush's Golfing buddies who'll be doing the bidding - oops I mean - winning of this database contract.
And you think this will CUT down on ID theft? Hahaha...You hand this car to anyone that wants your information - gee maybe a bouncer in a bar who wants to check you age? Hmm..gee I am SURE that they won't be anle to copy that information, because you know Government documents are Sooooo difficult to forge or read or anything...Sure. Yup. Wanna buy a bridge.
How's things in Australia? ANyone know? I want to get the fuck out of this country.

(May 10 05, 06:24)that's too easy, plus you'll want to come back.

I'm sure. Do you see the resolution you get on the google maps thing? What type of resolution do you think the military sats got?
The gov't / military only allows certain technology out into the real world when they sure they have a lock on what's better (gps anyone?). I am sure that's even more ttrue now than during the 90's.
Of course, now that our education system is tanking and high level chinese and indian engineering grad students can now actually make a living in their own countries and are treated like shit here in the US I am sure the USedge in tech has about another decade worth of run to it...

You know JazX, I am not sure I'd want to come back. My fiance is Japanese, we both can speak a couple of different languages. Not much I'd miss about the US as it is now...
The reason I would stay is to fight for the soul of this country which right now I feel is getting shafted and sold to a consortium of 20,000 of Bush's golf buddies as half this country is arguing about evolution in kansas and embryos and praying for an apocalypse.
I think this is kinda what Weimar germany must of felt like. And I really wish I was kidding.
