any idea why when i save for web in photoshop the colors are drastically different than they appear in photoshop even though they say they have the same rgb readings?

what are you saving... JPEG or GIF or...?
Not sure if this relates to your problem, but with GIF, maybe this is affected by the Optimization settings you are using?
For GIF I'm usually on on Selective, Diffusion, lossy 0, dither 100%, web snap 0, (not sure why) if thats of any use...

in the save for web dialog box there should be a little arrow in a circle button near the top just to the left of the "Save, Cancel" buttens. click on that and select "Uncompensated Color". that should fix it for you

doesnt matter same problem with both.. i just recalibrated the screen but no difference...
greens look the most different... just read somewhere tthat it is using the color profile of the browser rather than photshop... but i didnt really get whatthey were talking about

the only browser to respect embedded color profiles is safari, and photoshop is previewing a generic color profile...
sorry buddy...

ahhh, i changed it to 'use document colour profile' and its much better cheers.... they hid that well eh?

still though, browsers don't respect color profiles...
kinda sucks really...
but that the game we play

ah.. t didnt really work, looks good in photoshop and in the save for web preview, but looks diff in the browser still... so do i need to make a 'browser' profile in photoshop?

I have the same problem, the only way it works for me is:
Edit > Color settings >
all 3 color management policies off

It likely has to do with the color profile you are using globaly in photoshop.
You might try working in sRGB. Basically you're viewing the doc with a color profile setup. It will not save the color profile into the JPG file. Thus the problem.

I handled it by turning color management off, but I guess there are better ways. Can anyone suggest settings that would allow to use profiles and export images for web as you see them in photoshop?
Here's a view of an image opened in PS with its profile and what you see in IE.
There must be a tutorial on this or something, since problem is so common (though many people never notice it)

I noticed that problem too. It never happened when I was using my previous version of PS.

if you embed the profile in a jpg it makes the file size larger...
but it is possible, but a browser will not respect it...IE and firefox just disregard all color profiles...
