what are you saving... JPEG or GIF or...?
Not sure if this relates to your problem, but with GIF, maybe this is affected by the Optimization settings you are using?
For GIF I'm usually on on Selective, Diffusion, lossy 0, dither 100%, web snap 0, (not sure why) if thats of any use...
