I opened Flash mx professional for the first time yesterday and to my DISMAY.. no normal mode for actionscript?? WHAT THE FUK?
Are they purposely trying to push out designers and usher in programming professionals? Why is there not an option to keep a normal mode in the actionscript window. How hard would it have been to continue supporting that method for designers that don't want to learn how to handwrite code.. I chose design over programming for that very same reason.. Anyone else feel this way??

yep that's all gone, as in bye bye

Isn't that still available in the nor pro version?
I guess the figure only developers will take advantage of the differences in pro? I dunno.

that's right Neg, I guess it is still in the non-pro version.

you could say the people at Macromedia dthought it to be irrelevant.!

My first car had an automatic transmission.

so did mine, but comparing automatic and standards is apples and oranges when you take away a function that I relied upon to get stuff done quickly rather than hand coding..
Like I said.. I am a designer not a code writer..
Macromedia get's an "F" on that decision Hopefully ADOBE is listening!!!!

all the clues and hints are still there.
- irrelevant0
it's not the same.. What if Photoshop changed from mouse clicks to writing some apple script to drag a marque around an object.
I understand to flash developers that this tool is great, but to a designer who relied so heavily on the normal mode, it sucks and will not be manipulated into learning to write code.

this is the 'PROFESSIONAL' version. Get MX standard version if you don't want to learn the pro version.
I was shocked when i first used mx pro too, but I eventually got over it. Now i love it, and I HATE actionscripting...
- imakedesign0
you can still double clicl those things in the left to chuck the code in for you.
- Mimio0
It's not apple & oranges you just bought the wrong thing. Just call Macromedia/Adobe. They will probably just let you download the standard version.

Britney Spears is pregnant.

yeah i am sure you can trade it for the non-pro version over at macromedia.

I am going to do some scripting....
gotoAndPlay(2);
oh wait, my head hurts!!! Why isnt there a button that will do that for me????????
- irrelevant0
exactly.. you see my point :)

we have "behaviours" now. press shift+F3 to open it. you can do all the basic stuff in it.

macromedia likes changing the interface with every version. keeps the users on their toes. survival of the fittest.
also, not having it consistent across programs is another way they can make sure that only true believers will continue using their software.
are you man enough to figure out what we have installed for you?
and yes, i want a button to insert code, especially when it's simple. after learning so many script languages since 1990 (hell, macromedia alone has used about 6 accross thier authoring environments) i don't want to spend hours trying to figure out where i got my syntax wrong. after all, i am a designer and code is something i want to get out of the way, I have other sick ways of pleasuring myself.

larus, keep in mind that macromedia did not originally develop all of these programming languages. some of their software (flash comes to mind) was acquired along the way. that goes a long way towards explaining that discrepency.
I really think it takes all of a week to pick up the basics to AS and start running with it. If you're a designer who used normal mode in previous versions, I just don't see the difficulty in learning to type on(release).
Then again, I'm a developer and have no say in this matter. :)

Buy the Standard Version not the Pro version. It can't be said any simpler.
