Wow, this is deep.
Well, my folks own their own biz and I went to biz school, so I thought the be-all-end-all was owning my own biz. And it is definitely a life goal, but I've learned through my painful 20s that how i make money is more important than just making the money. Ergo, I don't want to start a chain of burger joints or whatever, even though that would proably be the quick route to cash.
So instead, I've decided it is my dream to make films, commercials, music videos, and see where the road takes me. Most likely toward production, but hopefully I can remain as much a part of the creative process as possible.
And if all else fails, I'll go start a chain of something and make oodles of cash because i'm gonna plenty of dough when i decide to settle down and start a family. Assuming i live that long.
I've put a lot of thought into this one, eh?
What about you xovi?

"Wow, this is deep."
You can say that again.
Here's what comes to mind:
I hope to land a position I'm currently pursuing; that would be my immediate, short term goal.
From there, by the looks of things, I'll have the chance to really focus on the practice of Branding.
A five year projection would leave me in charge as leading director of this particular office. Along the way, it would have been my responsibility to find talent, and at the fifth year, I will have built my team of designers.
Projecting seven to eight years, I hope to still be with the company, playing a more integral role.
With the practice of Branding being just over a century old, I enjoy the idea of becoming an authority in this specialized area by innovating; becoming well rooted in the practice--experimenting and pushing the envelope as a previous generation phases out and our generation in.
Along the way I want to teach, write, and attend university, possibly attaining a masters in cultures and civilizations.
Eventually, I want to merge my knowledge of both Branding and Cultures/Civilizations; possibly leading to further, more important discoveries dealing with our existence.
With that said, I'm hopping life succeeds in altering what seems to be a master plan, as I think it would make things a whole lot more interesting.

I never studied design in University I was a Fine Arts Major. A lot of my projects at school involved Digital media (video art, interactive art etc). I had developed the technical skills required for the industry, so when I finished school I took a job as a jr web designer, I thought it would be a way to remain creative while earning some money.
I have been doing this for about a year now, and have come to the conclusion that this is not for me. I cannot stand the lack of creative freedom, client's destroying ideas, and the lack of control in regards to picking projects. So I have decided to go back to school for a year and get my Bachelor of Education. It will alow me to pursue design/art in my own free time at my own pace choosing the work that I want to do.
So in the next five or so years I plan to pursue teaching while selecting pro-bono art/design projects in my spare time/summers off.

No, I was born in the UK and I still have family here but most of them are still in Switzerland. Everytime I go I never want to come back, I love it out there. The people are friendlier and the whole way of life seems healthier too. I'll be going again soon, probably nearer Christmas though, wish it could be sooner. Where abouts do you live pascii?

I hope to be able to buy up some property while becoming a better designer. When I'm ready to stop contract designing I'd liek to be able to support myself with rental income while learning to paint.
- pascii0

be a fashion designer; work for a magazine; have a little designing business on the side or just as a hobby.

this is a really good question.
i wanna lead the team of creatives and work with good talents. i want to design something i am happy with and what i believe in.
i never iimagined doing what i do today 5yrs ago. anything can happen. though i have a big picture goal, i try to be open about other possiblities. i think more about how i want to live my life. work isn't everything, it's about how you enjoy what surrounds you every moment of your life.
anyways, that's my view.
