I have finally buied a Samsung SyncMaster 190N 19'' LCD monitor.
Really fine monitor, i had try it at client's office and it's really nice.
I came from a benq 15'' so theres a huge differents.
Anyway i'm not able to calibrate it to do the best, any suggestion or online tools how help to do the work?
And another question..
i usually work with 1024x768 of resolution but this monitor work best in 1280x1024..
so, i really don't know if working with this resolution it's the good choice...all my clients have 1024x768..
...and i have just notice how my works are really bad in a higher resolution..
What you use guys?

calibrating your screen should be really covered in your manual.
work in the resolution what works best for you, just keep in mind when designing that the average res is smaller so don't go too big.

If it's LCD the only resolution you can use is the standard setting. Your screen will look shit if you go lower and you won't ba able to go higher.

nokia monitor test maybe?

if it's a good screen, or the manufacturer think it's a good screen then the calibrating should be covered in the manual. if not, than the screen ain't all that.

Basics:
Set contrast to maximum and then adjust brightness so that you can see the difference between ABC and XYZ on this image:
It's not so easy with colors though..
My Sony G420 has a nice "color restoration" function. Colors fade slightly on every monitor, so it's pretty useful. Every few months I click on it and it restores screen colors so they look factory fresh. I have no idea how it's done, but it works.

Eufeuelle, you should check this site. Helped me alot, as colormanagement can be quite complicated :

Maybe I'm coming into this thread late, but i don't understand why you just don't get a monitor calibrator such as gretag macbeth's EyeOne Display2.

It's pretty cheap and will give you a good color management standard to go by.
It work's really well.
There are others out there of course, but this is one we have been using for a while.
