i have been planning to get a sleeve tattoo(elbow down to wrist) since i was 16, but have put it off untill i could find the right time in my life to go ahead with it. now is that time, and i am hoping you guys can eather point me towards a good place in missouri, or somewhere else in the us (i am not against taking a "vacation" to get this done at a better shop, esp to nyc since i have friends there i wouldnt mind dropping in on...).

take a look here

coolest tattoos in the world imo.

if you like this his style, nobody beats paul booth.

with all due respect but a sleeve is from the shoulder down to the wrist not from the elbow to the wrist.
and i'm positively sure that a half sleeve from the elbow down while the upperarm is naked will look odd. unless that's what you're going for i'd say start from the top.
don't take advice from barstool experts so don't listen to me as well.
and don't make me start asking you if you're a sailor, a biker or a criminal :)
ps i have no idea who's good in missouri. just look around, check artists portfolios, maybe go to conventions in your area and if you see someone with a tattoo you like where you live, just ask where they had them done. most people are gladly to inform you on that.

be original, dont do it
- rabattski0
the other side of the story shines of unoriginality as well cloned.

it seems more people are tattooed now than every before
originality?
how many people get tattooed with something they've designed?or simply from some flash book?
clip art on my body? no thanks.
todays culture gets meaningless tattoos for status reasons,
the only ones i wont knock are family members, names/faces and maybe service tattoos because camradery is a powerful thing to those who serve in the forces.
i appreciate that effort.
but bikers can kiss off too wuth affiliation tatts that shit is only slightly less lame than the peole that get "ooh look at my tattoo", tattoos
how many girls do you all know with a butterfly or dolphin somewhere or the lower back tribal
what a joke
do it with sharks teeth and i'll shut up

my girlfriend have her shoesize tattoo'd under her feet, but it's only cool because she have a size 39 on the left foot and 40 on the right..
i'm still clean of ink, but it will not stay that way for long

well if you run the numbers you'll see that there is more variety in tattooed skin than in non tattooed skin thus proving my point that non-tattooed skin lack originality as well.
obviously you're not tattooed (or you find pleasure in pulling peoples legs). but i'll bite anyways.
"it seems more people are tattooed now than every before"
that's right. it has become less of a taboo (although one can still run into problems) so you'll see it more and more. but is that bad? people have been getting tattooed since the history of mankind. it's one of the oldest art forms around. is it bad it becomes more apparent?
"originality? how many people get tattooed with something they've designed?"
ok. this is where i think you don't have any tattoos. let me return it with a question. why would people buy a painting? why don't they paint it themselves? is owning a painting you didn't paint unoriginal?
"or simply from some flash book?"
there i partially agree. although to some certain extent there are classics, let's say a man's ruin, a death before dishonour? a lot of people have them. does that make them original? now let's leave the artists intepretation from such a classic aside, it's part of a cultural heritage. maybe it does not have the actual meaning to them it does have it's cultural meaning. but picking flash and just slap it on without any artist interpretation is indeed not smart.
"clip art on my body? no thanks.
that's your opinion and your a bit too limited view on how it runs. this also partially answers previous remarks of yours. a tattoo artist, a good tattoo artist, draws himself, most of them paint, sculpt, do whatever. you don't go to a tattoo artist and ask flash because you don't go to a painter and ask him if he can paint you a van gogh. both won't be really motivated, because both have their own thing going on and although they can copy it they won't be psyched about it. so you just tell 'em what you want, where you want it, and let them create it. that is how it really goes. custom work. your view on walking in a shop, picking number 12 from book 4 is what lack of knowledge will do.
"todays culture gets meaningless tattoos for status reasons"
the reasons are diverse as there are people. you cannot generalize it for all. yeah some do it for the wrong reasons so what? does that mean it's meaningless to all? prove to me that you're right that tattoos have no meaning these days. because todays motivations are as old as the history of tattooing itself. that plus it includes a huge bagage of cultural history in it.

rabattski-
i always love discussing things with you.
everything i stated was an opinion yes, and they are reasons that i have no ink. [no leg pulling]
give me something more unique, something further from the mainstream. i have seen uv inks. i would love a ghostface mouth and eyes on my own face so it was invisible during daylight hours but would rock in the club, that would be cool.
maybe an intricate branding would be nice not some bent and heated wire but a milled die cut shape pressed into my skin. that would be cool.
if i could do my eyelids in ink, maybe
but as far as the history of the tattoo, it has strayed far from its roots of status within a clan or tribal seperation
now its just a reason for a girl to talk to me. no thanks
- forcetwelve0
i've always asked myself will i always want people to be able to see it? even if you don't care - you can't control others' opinions - and if that inhibits their judgment of you you may get pissed...
BTW - i have one - but on my back...
- rabattski0
haha i knew it! :)
anyways.
1. uv ink has been done. it cause too much allergic reactions / has doubtful pigments.
2. branding, scaring, cutting etc. is as old as tattooing. still underground but getting more apparent although it'll take ages before that hit the catwalks. what's new is insertion of metal objects beneath the skin. oddest thing is saw was a screw on metal spiked mohawk (the screw parts where partially under the skin). anyways all that you will see more often in the future.
3. eyelid tattoos has already been done. russian prisoners with a murder status tend to have those (it basically meanse that even if i sleep i'm still dangerous).
4. you simplify the culture and history too much. there are too many different cultures with it's own rituals. that plus everyone is getting more global and open for other cultures, in other words, the clan, the tribe, especially in the western world is getting watered down / spread out. the only thing that keeps it together are cultural traditions of which tattoos can be one.
5. i totally agree that one should get tattooed for oneself and not for others. that's a very stupid reason.
- rabattski0
oh, cloned, you'll like this, i've seen 3D tattoos as well (back in '92 on some convention). you had to use those green / red glasses. very interesting. doesn't really work well on skin but still.
- version30
dude-
i wouldn't mind the tatooing if people had resaons
ive seen so many people with marks and calligraphy that has to have meaning and upon asking what it meant to hear "i dunno, it just looks cool" is just ridiculous
as far as the metal stuff thats old too at least 20 years its just now that its safer to do
i saw the mohawk spikes and liked it but i dont want to bump my head and crack my skull fuck that
what i would do is have a snao inserted into my wrist so my watch wouldnt need a band
functional is the key
- spongebob0
+1 cloned for J Skellington find.
(I don't give a shit whether you give a shit hahaha)
- rabattski0
"ive seen so many people with marks and calligraphy that has to have meaning and upon asking what it meant to hear "i dunno, it just looks cool" is just ridiculous"
well as said before as many reasons as there are people so you really can't generalize it.
i seriously don't care. i'm also not really interested in what other people have tattooed. only if it looks good to find out the artist or to guess the artist.
- NONEIS0
ok, so first two posts, worth the read, your silly banter about the legitamacy of my future tattoo, a total boor. i am 23, a graphic designer and an artist, do you really think that i am going for the butterfly, or the kanji?...
please.
only looking for links to somone who did a good ink job on you, a friend, or somone else you might know about.
