comic sans sucks for comic books, too. there's plenty of better comic book fonts for free.
and hating on helvetica has becoming trendier than actually using it.... it all comes down to how you use things.
..that said, i'd like to see a nice design with Comic Sans, haha. it's too loaded (read: hated) anymore to be taken seriously.

haha i don't hate Helvitica... i just think some designer use helvitica for almost EVERYTHING is lazy... and hell im lazy also. Like i said, Helvitica don't have much "style" to it, its clean, thats why you can almost use it for everything. Its a quick solution... But... please... please... don't use it for everything you design.
the point is... don't hate any fonts... all fonts are designed for a reason. Comic Sans can look funny... but it has its usage. It was orginaly design for cartoon/comic style software titles for Microsoft for screen. I don't love or hate any font... but i don't hate people who hate any fonts :)

The reason i say all that is... im very very tire of students who just got off design school, learn a few things from their prof... making fun of Comic Sans( or what ever font).... it just show their weak understanding of typography.

I agree with this. I don't think that it's Comic Sans that is particularly flawed. It does have it's uses. At heart is a simple, cheap, legable font.
However, the problem is that it's overused, and likewise almost seemingly by those who are unaware of design.
So you have to ask youself, why is such an ugly font used so much? Simple, it's bundled with Windows and has thus became a "standard" of sorts. Everyone has access to this thing - as designers, we have bucketloads of fonts in the dropdown menu, as a normal computer user, Comic Sans is one of the few in your arsenal - and it does look unique among the others.
Comic San's has always reminded me of an unexperienced designer thas using a PC. Becuase if you notice, Comic Sans is not part of the Apple universe - Apple knew better than to include this stinker with the OS. Apples equivelent to Comic Sans would probably be Chicago (which is a decent font).
If you were to replace Comic Sans with an attractive font that could communicate the same message (fun, soft, etc.) then you would without doubt see Comic Sans virtually disappear from design.
So is Comic Sans is a bad font? No. Like someone said there really are no bad font's, they all have a use.
Is bundeling Coming Sans with an OS that is installed on billions of computers worldwide a good idea? No it's not. you may as well put a free slim jim in every box of Windows.

Creative Review had some nice posters using Comic Sans a few months ago.
Back to Helvetica again, I use it so often because it does lack "style" and "emotion" it's such a straightforward font that there's no way it can be used in a mis-leading manner...
At the same time I am lazy and see very few projects were Helvetica can't work, if it doesn't work then I'll use...
akzidenz!! :P

everyone names their teddy bears after Mr. and Mrs. Snuggles.

Back a few years ago, Snuggle fabric software sadly ended it's Snuggle Bear campaign.
Snuggle bear was the masthead of a military like advertising campaign launched by a Johnson and Johnson sub company.
This bear relentlessly promoted the snuggle soft qualities of fabric treated with the Snuggle chemicles for almost a decade.
Thoughout the life of these commercials we've seen the Sunggle Bear romp through woods, beaches, and other areas of paradise usually off limits to speaking, animated plush toys.
With a laugh comparible only to the Pilsbury dough boy, we can be sure that the world will never see anything like him again.
RIP Snuggle Bear

comic sans is the worst typeface ever. and i hate it. and of course it's creator would say by me making that statement that i know nothing about typography. it is the ugliest face and thousands of other alternatives would have done better.
not only did this man create comic sans, he also created trebuchet ms. as if we should listen to him for type advice.

johndiggity:
each font was born for a pupose, and no font is born to fit every need..... love it or hate it... u just need to know how and when to use it.

The case of Comic Sans is obvious. It's not wether it's a bad or good font... it's the fact it's grossly overused, and mostly by amatures. Reason being it's bundeled with Windows... this font resides in billions of computers as we speak, right out of the box.
This is why Comic Sans is an issue more than anything. You could throw an abstract looking Carson font into a default windows install and after a few years you'll see it used, abused, and misused everywhere you look, and hate it just as much as comic if not more.

what about shatter?, thats pretty stylin font if you aske me.
