I'm sort of with tkmeister in that as I see it, either way as long as you have a rocket launcher to fire into something that will explode like holy hell and knock you backwards on your ass, you'll at least have some kind of satisfaction in the end.

I like bad concept and bad execution because it confirms my low opinion of myself and the world

i think if i have to pick one, i pick better excution. Why?
because a crap concept with good execution, is boring.... but its still "usable"
A bad excution.... mean u can't even use it, so bad u can't even "see" the bad concept.

It's all about the balance. And it really is that simple.

i didnt read the whole thread. but i have had this conversation with so many of my friends who cant design for shit and work in advertising.
they keep talking about concept this concept that, i think thats bullshit, concept comes out on its own if you let the product inspire you, but i think you have to be talented for that.
but to be realistic, they dont work if they dont go together, but a strong concept can atract smart people and creatives to a product. (the kind of people who analize what they see)
anyways, the whole thing is, that people who argue about concept ALOT are just people who cant design and cant come up with a good concept either, and are simply justifying their existence.
my opinion/

i once had this great concept ... it sound sound great.... but it totoly fuck me up in production phase...
After that.. i learn.. all concept sounds great on paper need to do a massive reality check..

You can't have good design without good concept

When I was in the military we had a saying - good tactics will make up for a fucked up strategy.
So to translate - good execution can save bad design, but good design will be botched everytime by poor execution...

(Apr 20 05, 17:13)that's one of the smartest things i've ever read on NT. but it's gotta be bullshit if ya learned in the military.

There's good military and bullshit military. It's a 10 to 1 ratio, but the good stuff is golden.
Rule 103: good tactics will save a sorry strategy (i.e. fundamentals, teamwork, training, unit discipline). A great strategy will be FUBAR by poor execution.
Same goes for design, or anything else in life.

Word coming out of the Southern States such as Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama is that Philippe Starck will be designing the next Execution Chair.
How's that for confort when you die. F*ck the last meal.
