I'm not telling you anything, you're the one calling for design by committee

This sums it up for me:
:-)
That's not exactly the name but the word "wine" is there. Don't want to give away the name as I'm after unusual +crazy + unconventional ideas.

(Jun 30 05, 05:25)How about one which accurately portrays the brand and 'sells' it in an efficient and effective manner?
Is that what you are being paid to do?

stem, i'm not sure whether you mean to be patronising. most of us know that designing with the user in mind is the main objective.
we just like to discuss the really interesting and exciting parts of design cos we have to deal with the pedestrian stuff every day.
know thy user, as you're preaching. graphic design magazine's users want to be inspired.
- Engage_London0
things can be exciting and designed for the user... thats the good thing about it...
by the way vespa... I'm currently foing this years D&AD DVD... and this year interactive stuff will be on it...
I've been typesetting the button for your work just a minute ago!

"things can be exciting and designed for the user... thats the good thing about it..."
I agree, I just find the layouts in grafik detract too much attention from the work itself. CR is much better designed for a good editorial read. Too many magazines are trying too hard to be 'different' and while they're busy doing that, the core message - the content- is lost in a page of visual noise... Just my opinion though...
I think Fresh Dialogue is by far one of the best design related periodicals..

i agree that our job is to do both, but stem seems to be suggesting that the two are mutually exclusive.
hey fanks engage, i hope they are the screenshots we sent, not the ones they used at the awards ceremony! those ones had no interfacey bits in them!
- Engage_London0
i don't get to see the bits of work... i just make the buttons
(my life story!)

(Jun 30 05, 06:58)I agree that Grafik serves a purpose and if its role is to inspire, that what can be wrong with that?
Shit I've even got a few copies myself!!!
I was just thinking out aloud or playin the devils advocate, not sure, which (or either).
I guess you hit the nail on the head for me with the 'designing with the user in mind' I wasn't being patronising, but I sometimes think it's easy to loose sight of this when there's so many other factors to consider and a temptation to do 'the next best thing'

"I agree, I just find the layouts in grafik detract too much attention from the work itself."
Do you remember when Grafik was first redesigned... now that was way too distracting, I had to put it down because I wasn't reading anything in it.
