Just finished a new version of my portfolio site. Would love some feedback. Rip me up.
http://www.standardissue.usThanks.

no hard feelings mate!
overall...
it feels like you tossed a few many concepts into the visual design. simplify...your message seems clouded with the extra 'elements'
the grid system is a little much.. I feel you should simplify a bit.
especially for the flash portfolio section... there is no reason to further indent or pad the content , when you maintain the alignment with the main nav on other sections.
type is inconsistent... you need to make it a system... you have some great things going on..but it doesn't connect across the board...
in the portfolio... most of the images of the work seems redundant.. (simply changing a left to right view doesn't make sense for another slide) - so much of the work should only be one slide.
I really like your BCG Folder cover as well as the virtual october.
keep it up. but really - simplify things!
cheers mate!

I like it.

it's nice, but what chimchim said. if you fix all that it'll be super classy and super sexy.

I don't mind the grid so much, overall the site is pretty good. Kill the indent on the Flash element, and brighten up some of your images, the logos are a bit dark. The white type on red throws me off a little bit in your profile. Maybe stick with something easier on the eyes. Nice work overall though, a few minor tweaks and you'll be there.

So far I am in agreement w/ what the previous chaps here have said.
Howeever you went a little overboard w/ the 45 degree lines in different directions and such.
- mattyd0
agree with the 45degree thing. also, on safari, the font in the portfolio section looks like crap. maybe a different font? could just be my end though. overall, its cool. like the work.
- kld0
yeah, choose one direction for the 45 degree lines or, better yet, try something different.
- monNom0
I dunno if it was the 1pager thread, or 'cause your links are a bit small/light, but it seemed slow to nav through... also the content area is a bit crapped...
maybe you can display a little more with less clicks?
that's my thoughts

When your in the portfolio > interactive section the link to the web section doesn't work...its a nice site though.

.us huh? I think, if I'm correct, that the govt. waives all your provacy rights with that domain now. No anti-govt stuff and you should be allright.
As far as style, the photograph is using up space that is sused most often to tie in the space, but it doesn't really do that. A piece toy did for a client, unless that is what that pic is of would do better. Also, like they said earlier, busy. I don't know what to look at first, kinda.
I DO like the simple pallete, but it does still look busy.

drop the "45" if you can...

print and interactive doesn't work for me.

I like the layout. mabey a little bussy. Main prob I have is the portfolio section. Your work egs are very small and blured. I would rather wait a second or two for larger better quality images. Do you need to have that image taking up space in the top half? (although I like it, might not need it in the folio sec)
- chada0
Hey thanks everyone for your comments and for taking the time. I appreciate all the responses and will rework some things keeping in mind your suggestions. I thought all the "45s" were a little much.

If you have more personal/ experimental work it would be cool to put it up there. The overall look of your site is very experimental, but then when I opened your work it was all very mainstream and corporate looking. Kind of a disconnect there. If you are trying to market yourself to a different kind of client that should be reflected in the work as well. Also on the front page the personal info and stats are very hard to read reversed out on light grey text. A good start though.

I really dig the look and feel of your site. But why are the photos of your work soooooo small!?!
This should be the MAIN FOCUS of the entire site! You have the header images bigger than your own work!
Visually, your work seems unimportant. Which is a shame cause the work itself is good.
I say, screw the header image. Reduce its height and dedicate your site to your work!
And- to be even harsher (if that's a word. Which it probably isn't) the header image itself isn't all that interesting. It's a beach or an island? Who cares. Get something that actually says something. I feel like dead trees are your priority. Maybe if you were a poet, it'd be cool. But no. I like the rumpled tag. Go with it. Get a picture that compliments it. Your name at the top of the page is also terribly hard to read.
I think you're got strong work and a nice concept. But take it all the way. Some parts are really clean design, some parts have a grungy feel. Some things are grid aligned, some are off-kilter. I think you need a unifying voice to bring it all together. You're almost there.

Also, you're not fooling anybody with the photos of your work from two angles. It's pointless. Do your work justice! Do a detail shot and a shot of the whole piece. If it's print work, get close- show us your paper choice.
Also on some of the photography, your color choices are lost. Your whites look gray. Everything looks like it has a contrast-reducing overlay on it.
Again, I love where you're going with this. Almost there.
- jakeyj0
pretty good, but like 10.2 said you're not fooling anybody with two photos. if you're going to do multiple shots make sure they are different. give a close up and a full shot at least. don't just do it to pad it.
and the site is good. but you got a good name like standard issue - for your next version you gotta take that and run with it. right now your site doesn't say anything or give me any feeling of 'standard issue'.
some good work mixed in there tho...
- chada0
Thats what i'm talking about tenpointtwo. Some good stuff.
Thats why i said rip me up. I am definitley reworking the portfolio section.
