It's a piece of piss getting into the UK these days, just come over with no papers, don't bother getting a job and the government will pay you loads of benefits and give you a house. It's awesome here these days!

The UK is probabaly the most difficult place to move to. It's not part of the Euro, and don't support free movement of european workers. Commonwealth Visas, have now been reduced to a year instead of two, something the Aussi's here aren't to chuffed with.
The have no state sponsorship scheme to speak of unless you are a doctor, nurse etc.
On top of that it is probabaly the most expensive country to move to from another (once you start earning UK pounds, things become nominally more afforadable) but moving there with US dollars will be a culture shock, I think its somewhere around $2 to £1.
To Study there cost about the same as a house deposit in America, so unless daddy works in Oil or Computers I'd forget it.
That aside if you can pull it off, it is frankly the coolest city in the world. Great bars, shows, music, design, etc etc.
I'm Biased of course, but it is my home. Good luck.

Well, thanks for the comments everyone. It is difficult to know what is really involved in a process like this without actually talking to people who have lived it. How's the design scene there, BTW? Lots of work?
