Are you working with in a defined grid?
It looks like a three column grid--editorial style. But, elements seem to crawl across the layout, haphazardly.
I think that with a defined grid and grid parameters, the layout could be all it was meant to be.

You need to add a bit more structure and the font's a bit... commonherd, apart from that it's a nice clean space to show a gallery's work.

damn, i orignally had it lined up very grid like and changed it to this right before i uploaded it because i felt like this added alittle life that it was lacking before, hold on let me throw the previous version up as well.

here is the other version

That feels better to me. The only reason why I say that is because it feels like editorial design.
I would say if your leaning towards an editorial style layout, you should reference and follow editorial type guides.
I think that keeping images uniform in size to fit with in the developed grid will be important to the integrity of your site too.
The bigger image underneath, top aligned with ALICE; maybe should be left aligned with the top image.
I think the break in color/image (top image) is sort of creating a faux grid line--you seem to be following it, maybe deviating from the actual defined grid.
Is there a defined grid?

i do not have a defined grid for this piece. I was basically just focusing on lining the pieces up but doing it in an interesting/unique way. I noticed a strong "breakline" in the top image and thought it might be nice to align some of the content with that instead of the left side which i felt was kind of bland and crowded the contact info on the left too much.
as for the actual typeface, im poor and cant afford all the nice fonts that i would like so i have to work with what ive got.

A poor excuse for poor typography.
There are great free fonts everywhere.
You can find a batch of quality screen fonts at:
http://www.pixelyn.net
Don't abuse them though; Danielle is talented and kind and asks that you use them with love. You can download quality screen fonts here as well:

ok ill mos def work with the typeface but how do you feel about the layout now that i explained a little bit of my thinking?
- dan_dan_dan0
I think you should work with a defined grid in stead of a "noticed, strong, breakline".
It will help with the progression and development of the rest of yoru site.
It will make for a better work-flow and a better end result.

For fonts you could also try: http://www.fountain.nu/
http://www.fontleech.com/I think it's the way the images don't line up that bugs me.

thanks for the font listings, downloaded a few already.
in regards to lining up the images i had a major oversight....i didnt realize that placing one of the many ladnscape oriented paintings along that same imaginary line would absolutely not fit.

I think there is too much scrolling, that one painting is cut off, I would keep your important stuff above the fold.

now with a refreshed typeface and improved layout

I think it looks a lot better!
But now I think the menu might be competing a little with the title- perhaps because they are the same font?

It does look alot better now that everything is lined up. I'm not into the negative leading on the title and the biography thing. the main image gets cut off at the bottom, which I think is a little weird.
