People need to stop calling this an "iPod Killer."
In typical fashion, it is moronic journalists trying to be on the cusp of the next wave of cool that are doing so.Read an article on the way into work this morning doing exactly that. I do not see how it can be called this.
The iPod, and any mp3 player, facilitates storing large quantities of music to be listened to. Some people want that, and just that.
The PSP won't ever have the storage capacity of an iPod or any other large capacity mp3 player. I also can't wait to see people complaining of an inability to see the LCD screen in sunlight - which puts to rest the article's theory that people are now going to be playing video games or watching movies while waiting for public transportation. Why would anyone want to watch a movie on that small of a screen anyways?A friend of mine is all excited to get one, and he doesn't even have a decent computer capable of doing all the things you need to do to get 100% of it's purpose out of it.

someone suggested buying off ebay:
What price have people bought them for from there?
- 5timuli0
I got mine for £175 + £25 P&P. That was for the Value Pack and Ridge Racers Game. I got stung for £50 import duty though but it still works out cheaper than buying from any so-called importers. Some of them are charging £300 for the PSP alone.

nobody's calling it an ipod killer, mg33. they're saying sales and popularity will be on par with the ipod.
why are you so threatened by the psp?
- SteveJobs0
ok, but all were saying is if the ipod and psp were to get into a fight, ya know if maybe one were to 'accidentally' trip the other with their headphone jack or something, who would win.
i mean, you can clean the blood off of an ipod, right?
- scarabin0
there's no debate about which is a superior audio player. ipod's got that hands down.
the psp owns images, slideshows, and video. someone here said they were using it for client presentations already. you'd look like a tool showing someone your work on a 1 inch ipod screen or whatever.
plus the psp has the added bonus of being the most sophisticated handheld gaming unit ever made.
i really don't think they're even competing in any market.

scarabin,
I don't think it's an ipod killer at all.
I'm more complaining about inept journalists who will label it as such because they are too mindless to write a headline that simply says "PSP IS AWESOME!"
Instead, they take the easy way out by generating buzz for something by using negative intent towards something else. The paper I'm talking about, if you read it as much as I do you'd vomit from the total ameturism. It is a paper started last year, with the Chicago Tribune, which is a condensed version of the paper with more entertainment related things, reviews, and articles about things around Chicago and related to their 18-34 demo.
Here's something that caught my eye today, in a "fashion around town article."
A guy is dressed in what looks like slim grey pants, a somewhat velvet looking black blazer, black tie, and very simple metal tie-clip.
The caption says:
FRANZ FERDIBAD
We know the punk look is in right now, but the clip is a little too geeky.WTF?
It looks more like fashion that Interpol or The Killers would be wearing, but I'm sure at the same time this paper's writers are stupid enough to call those bands punk bands too! :D
