thanks to mrdinky for the font and it will be screenprinted.

It doesn't really say "music camp" to me. I think you need to work on the imagery a little more. Also, I'm not too crazy about the colors you've chosen. I'd say to keep going. :)

I agree, the image isn't right. It's too classical, jazz like. Is this suppose to appeal to kids or adults? I think it should be more fun.
- kld0
yeah the colors aren't set in stone, kinda xmas-ish right now.
- Jaline0
yeah, the colours aren't exactly suitable for what you're doing. Also, I think you have to incorporate the musical aspects visibly.
- piperboytoy0
have more kids friendly graphics.
- kld0
well it is a music camp for kids but mainly for classical music and composing
- abizzyman0
...this one time at band camp...
... eh... sorry...
yeah - this isn't isn't 'Kids' at all. It's very 'hard' in appearance. It should be warmer / friendlier.
- kld0
It also not so much for selling kids on the camp but more like at the camp as a take home kinda thing.

kld, not to sound rude, but it sounds like you're looking for people to reaffirm their liking of what you worked on instead of a critique.
Is this the case, or are you just trying to genuinelygive us a better idea of what this is for (which is better to know, anyway)?
It does need less of a "design program" look to it though. If I knew how to link to previous Newstoday posts, I would, but you should really refer to the "Logo Crit Please" thread. The topic totally applies here since Ivan was creating a high school logo.
Think kids. Think classic. Think smart.
Usually students in music tend to be really intelligent &/or laid back. I don't know what age group this refers to, but definitely take it into consideration. More than likely, you may want to give it a look of prestige.

the responses so far sum up what i was thinking. It sounds like what you're telling us is it's more of a souvenir instead of a promotion. I'd say give it a more "fun" feeling... i would think that the kids that want a souvenir would want to look at it and think fun memories.
i say ya grab the sketch pad, put on some jazz and start sketchin' ...better yet, go sit outside with the headphones on and sketch.
keep in mind that i have had 3 beers.
i don't think anyone here is saying that it's bad... it just doesn't fit.
- version30
kld i like it
and no matter what if its a take home thing it will always be full of memories for them
besides, i doubt any of the highly judgmental NTers will be attending said camp
- gruntt0
version, you're wrong. i'm going to that camp.
i'm 12.
- abizzyman0
gruntt! YOu're 12???!!
... what's your phone number?!
are you hot!??
*touching
- jeneraa0
Like gruntt says. The look is cool, it just doesn't fit a kid's music camp.
...just so you don't get me wrong. Me likey, but it just doens't work for kids.
- version30
gruntt = coolest 12 yr old ever
except doogie howser
- gruntt0
ok, i lied.
i'm 31
i'm still going to that camp though.

I'm definately not looking for affirmation and I'm sorry it sounded like that. Just giving a little background.
Yes these kids are intellligent. Most are high school age and will be going on to study music in college. Some are teenage prodigies and so on.
I was just trying to find a balance between the imagery, which is based on photographs from last year, and a non typical composition which I was feeling would appeal to young talented classical musicians.
thanks for all the comments, its the first pass so I will keep at it.

interesting dilemma kld, since you sort of have to place yourself in the heads of those kids and figure out what will work as a souvenir, something they really want to take home as a remembrance.
the dilemma lies in the fact that they are a) kids but b) for their age more then average smart (right?).
do you go with a design that does trigger their intellect or do you go with something that triggers them being a kid.
imo i would focus on the fact that they are kids, like any other kid and shouldn't be treated as adults because they're smarter. that is such an important part of your life you know. so imo that poster wouldn't cut it for me. then again i could be very wrong. maybe you should talk to campleaders or something. they for sure know how those kids can be approached.

I honestly don't feel it's that off-mark, and I'm pretty damn close to the demographic you're shooting for. Of course I over-saturate myself with design, but...
Give it some copy, keep it on the short side, add a few more elements to make the main illy bold but fun. It's a good, very good starting point in my opinion.
I mean, there's no real clear failure in this case since you're just using it for eye-candy. If one/all students don't like it, no money lossed, right? But I don't think that will be the case anyhow.
