I just finished my site.
I'm a photographer, not a designer, so I kept it clean and simple.
What do you think?
- haha0
anybody?
???
- radar0
I agree it's simple, which is good for photography sites. I would lose the frame unless it frames the photo not to define the display area. Also why the italics on your name - I would maybe play with the name and give it more weight.

what radar said
- stewart0
yeah what tny said
- mattyd0
i agree with stewart
- mattyd0
but, yeah, get rid of the italics, especially with a sans serif font. try and make a logo for yourself. and, if you lack any concepts as to your logo, as i did, just use your signature.
but i really like the pics. good shit.
- haha0
yeah, i agee
But I really think the frame works with it, because of the diff formats of the pictures...I tried it the other way, and it just seemed strange looking.I totally agree with ditching the italics....bothered me for a while, but I wanted to see what others think.
Thanks for the responses

start on humanity those are dope
- haha0
Thanks mattyd for the compliments.
I tried that signature thing a while back...but it couldn't get it to look to good.
I'll keep trying though.....
- mattyd0
also, if you are going to use the iFrame, get rid of the border. it detracts from the picture. i found myself looking at all the white space enclosed in the black frame than i did for some of the pics.

seriously, lose the frame or frame in each separate photo.
it looks unfinished.
- haha0
Yeah, I actually meant to start there on humanity....but forgot about it when posting...I'll make that change....thanks for pointing it out.
- haha0
Also, a big thanks to Carty for helping get through some of the webdesign hurdles.
- tny0
what if the seperation was created by the background of the content being dif than the page?
-photos on white
-page bg DDDDDD (or something subtle)>But I really think the frame works with it, because of the diff formats of the pictures...
- stewart0
okay, seriously
if you're going to frame your picture, why not only frame the picture itself, so the white spaces are outside your frame?
another thing, your frame isn't 100% solid (left side). make it 1px black or something.
and frame the thumbnails too.and some pictures look like they're too bright
vsyou're the photographer, but in my opinion a photo has to contain 100% white AND 100% black somewhere.
and maybe make a better selection. for example the older woman, she's in there 3 times. 2 times a similar portrait, and another time her hands.
is it the same project? maybe give some information with your pictures.the picture of her hands is great by the way.
good luck!

im sorry if there are any repeats, i havent read any comments.
but a few fixed i think could go a long way:
*lose the italics on your "ewing photography" header and align its left edge with the left edge of your black frame. you can also try using an un-condensed face for this header... might look better.
*align the right edge of the navigation to the right edge of your frame
*drop the black frame stroke 1 px, instead of 2, will clean it up a tad.. the frame looks clunky right now.
*center your copyright info since you have all your thumbnails centered. or you could align the thumbnails/copyright info left. you could also try using a non-bold typeface for the copyright, looks a tad clunky right now
*also, you can try using ULC (upper and lower case) text for your navigation.. might make it look a little more interesting visually. also, what typeface is that? looks like verdana or something.. maybe try Helvetica, will probably look better.
hope this helps a little

The frame seems to be holding a mixed reaction. I designed it with and without, I think that it looks better with it....but i'm starting to second guess myself now.
Stewart, I agree that both those photos are on the lighter side...but that is the look of both of those photos....it isn't some technical mishap. I think you are dead on when you say well exposed photos need a black and a white point, but
that is not the look I was trying to achieve in those photos.I think I will take out some of the "similar" photos...although they were part of the same project, I agree that they are repetetive.
I'm working on the italic thing right now....I totally agree with each and everyone of you.
Thanks for the advice everyone, and please keep it coming.

personal peev:
I hate it when you click a contact section and it pervasively opens your default email browser.
I expect to see an address, or a contact form. If you only have an email address to contact, you should just run it as a footer underneath your photos and ditch the contact section
This is beneficial by: making your email visible throughout your whole site so user doesn't dig for it, as well as not causing any unexpected events to occur to the person using your site.

aren't all photo sites black?

What I would do.
1. Unititled Document would be better if it said Adam Ewing.Id make a html page with the following .
Adam Ewing
mailto:Photography
humanity
environments
projects
commercial© 2005 by Adam Ewing
3. Id make each section example "projects" displayed using php rather then html, it will save you update time.
