thats about right if you are self employed, and had a good year. it sucks doesn't it. i'm sure you fit tax budegt into the bids though.

I'm looking for a CPA in the LA area with specific knowledge regarding freelance design tax laws, etc.
Anyone got a kick ass CPA they would recommend?

shoot me,
i have to go through thousands of receipts this weekend to check all my expenses...i am definitely not doing taxes myself this year. leaving it to a professional.

Getting some loot back.. not much tho.

i paid about 10 last yr and i'll pay a lil less this yr. i was a lazy mofo this year tho.. :/

yeah i don't get it...small businesses (especially the self-employed) get absolutely screwed come tax time.
Yet somehow the pepsi corp managed to not pay a cent of tax a few years ago.
I guess if you sink millions and millions into advertising, you get a vicious tax break.
Maybe all freelancers should follow the big corps and set up headquarters in bermuda or the cayman islands.

and then bush gives companies like that a "tax holiday" so they can bring all of that loot back into the country and still not pay any taxes on it.
and yet poor rural folks still vote for them over "moral values"
Fucking sheep.

I made close to nothing in cash this year. Anyone knows the borderline beyond which i don't have to pay shit because i'm too poor?

Yeah, the numbers all add up and it makes sense. I've got a very aggressive accountant but the numbers are there.
I do take into account taxes when bidding jobs, and save accordingly. The real drag: I worked so hard last year, nights, weekends, etc, and I really don't have a whole helluva lot to show for it. I don't have debt, just big bills. Damn.
The upside? I'm already on course for a better year this year.
Eat your heart out.

i think it was 6-7k annually, although i this may or may not be true.

I thought I was alone...I was hoping to have a really nice return this year then I find that I owe them close to $600...
I guess I messed up somewhere but with all the federal, state, medicare and social s. they've taken from my checks, I've given them over 10k...WTF!!!
- Spix0
huh...i need to get to that..
- jevad0
I'm hoping for a good return. First time filing cos I've only lived here a year - plus we bought a house this year....

i got hit hard last year, and had to get a loan to pay the taxes, which i am still paying off.
Married, dual income, no children, is a rude awakening.
