Does anyone here still think the Bush idea of reforming Social Security into Personal Retirement accounts is a good idea, or is it basically just a way for the financial industry to bilk the US taxpayers out of $2 Trillion? Wouldn't that money do better taking care of retired peeps. What is your opinion on this?

The problem is that they started this with no money, you can get water from a rock. Cycle, cycle, cycle, eventually will blow up. Regardless of president.

'cant get' I meant

I don't understand what you are trying to say.

they didnt start with anything, they are now taking money from taxpayers. The implementers, the originals, where did they take their money from initially? thats my question or guess

in theory, having ss like 401k and other 'retirement' plans is ok...the problem is, though, that the majority of americans who NEED ss when they retire don't make enough money to do it on their own. that was the point.
i have a 401k, stock option plan, and a money market account...but, there are co-workers in my office older than i am who don't even have the 401k part.
you can't pay into a private account if you don't have the money in the first place.
so, in the end, this will end up benefitting those who make 'x' amount of money...screwing the rest.
the entire republican theocracy needs to be overthrown.

(Mar 11 05, 08:28)has nothing to do with Republicans or Democrats. Its the system set up.

Good point georgie - I thought they were going to divert the FICA tax to start the accounts. But that is what a drunk republican told me - sounds suspect.

Couldnt agree more. I think that this is just a huge cash grab by the Financial Industry. The cost to implement the Bush plan is $2 Trillion dollars, wouldnt that money be better spent actually helping people instead of lining the pockets of rich wall streeters? Because they are the only ones who will benefit from it. I wish people would finally wake up from this stupor they seem to be in.

its most definitely F'd up anyway you look at it

It is somewhat of a Republican thing. Republicans want to privatize everything. Public services don't make profits for campaign contributors.

what bush said is bullshiat either way, that little marionette.
- GeorgiePorgie0
I guess they are trying to give an alternative to it. Not sure if thats Repubican or Democrat. What are some of the Democrats saying?
- GeorgiePorgie0
marionette.
lol

ah, yes. people in need require help. let's just throw a bunch of money at them. screw the fact that the money taken out of my pay now won't even be able to pay for my property taxes when i retire at 121.
- GeorgiePorgie0
dude, I beat you. I plan on retiring at 102. haa haahaa have fun that alst 19 years
- mrdobolina0
how much money do you think a person can save when they only make 7 dollars an hour, John?
- unfittoprint0
unfortunately some in your country think accountability in democracy only happens in a 4/5 year cycle .
it's a 24/7 judgement.
- Mimio0
Or....how much money can someone make who's injured, or handicapped? A private account won't do shit if you're not able to contribute to it.
- Mimio0
This is a very much a partisan issue as well. It's based on the fundamental ideals of what it means to have Socialism in a Democracy or economic spartanism.
- johndiggity0
workman's comp or disabillity covers that.
and a person who only makes $7/hr has bigger problems than social security.
