i'm trying to compare the (ss) basic Shared Server membership with Media Temple:
http://mediatemple.net/services/…to this service i found with www.freeweb.de:
http://freeweb.de/privat.aspWhy would I want to pay twice as much for media temple and only GET half as much?

i just recently left MediaTemple. i finally figured out it's the fun of doing what the "cool kids" do. but the cool kids don't have to pay and we do. i found an insanely amazing deal at: http://www.dreamhost.com
2400MB for $7.95/mo
If you decide to go with dream host tell them Graham Slick (that's me) sent you. then i'll get one free coupon for a make out session with a moose. i like the moose.

I'd rather lead than follow. There are several great hosting companies to choose from, you don't always have to wear the Nikes just because everyone else is wearing them.
my 2 cents

true, but you don't get to put the (mt) logo on your site
think about it
- irrelevant0
and I wonder how much more business people get with the mt logo on their site.. bottom line is to make money not advertise for someone else to make more money.
tink about it

i'm definitely thinking about it, and this dreamhost.com definitely caught my eye with 2.4gb of disk space and 240gb bandwidth for 7.95 a month... hot damn! best would be a 2 year contract obviously but maybe i should just go for a one year contract and see how it goes?

sorry, i was just being a smartass
i agree with you though

24/h tech support is fucking crazy.
we call them all the time, at like 4am and they help us through any situation
- grafholic0
24/h support usually happens by having offices worldwide, with different offices covering certain hours.
the problem with that is that some offices are so far away from the HQ, the training and knowledge sharing, or simply communication about bug/tech support with other departments does not happen as frequently or smoothly as one hopes for. like what happened to dell's support center in india. and people end up getting frustrated.

ive personally been with other hosters, and (mt) is amazing.
their backend control is nuts. i can add email users, secure directories, add users, subdomains easily and seamlessly.
you can even host clients sites under yours, and charge them whatever you choose. demian said that right on here.
their speed and reliablity is 110%.
i highly reccomend them for hosting your site, and your clients site.
just remember that when it comes down to the crunch of the projects we all work on, you dont want a host to not be there for you when the crutial time comes for updating, adding users, FTP and launching the site. 9-5 tech support is bullshit.
we all know clients expect us to turn around sites in under a week, and get shit up and running fast and cost-effectivly. why leave the hosting quaility part of your equation to some random grey clone box in a dudes basement, that could fail and cost your client time and money...
its not worth the risk...go with what works and has been proven.

the knowlaage base itself is worth the price. it teaches you how to do almost anything on a server side that would take most companies 2 weeks of back and forth implimentation before it gets up and running....

i dunno.. now i'm checking out DreamHost and their stats look pretty tempting too. why would i want a fraction of the storage and bandwidth for the same price, just for 24hour service? I'm already living in germany so late at night for me is still within working hours in N.A.

Why would you keep asking questions that begin with "why would?"
Seems like you're waiting for someone to convince you to go with (mt), even though you obviously don't want to.
- mevsthem0
only way id switch to [mt] is one year of free hosting. i have nothing against them but a clean looking control panel won't make me switch since i use ftp client. if your looking for good hosting dream host got recommanded alot good price also hostway.com i liked them when i used them, now im getting free hosting but it can't handle alot of visits.

you pay extra with media temple so you can put an (mt) logo on your site and have people like me laugh at you.

lol @ scarabin!

mediatemples tech support is 2nd to none. technically they're not supposed to do this, but they've looked at my Perl code before and found an error and fixed it. Plus, I've never had to wait more than 1 minute to talk to somebody. AND they play raggae while you're on hold for that 1 minute. they've admin controls are awesome too. plus, mediatemple is reliable. those smaller hosting companies are great and all, but reliability is an issue with them.

and usually the only people who put the MT logo on their site are ones who get hosted for free. if you pay for it AND have the logo on your site, then you most likely have a huge spoiler on your car too
