Because they're not a Fly-by-night company
They have a good partner/referral program for designers/developers.

Don't get locked into a long contract. Feel things out, even if you have to pay extra. It is not hard at all to switch providers.
Get in where you fit in man!

dreamhost is good if all you need is shared hosting
i have a server at mediatemple to myself and i like it pretty good...
i mean, go with what fits you dude, and don't advertise for them on your site...
no matter who they are...
don't do it...
i know your thinking about it, stop!
- tGP0
sure there is a bandwagon attitude towards them, but there is a reason for it...
i have dozens of accounts through them, and have been through many others...
ususally, if you pay more for something, there is a reason... i believe this to be the case.
i have had tech issues dealt with in ridiculous speed time after time, from setup and configuration and setup to upgrades...
and i can get a real person on the phone that understands their systems and isnt reading lines off a cue card from india
cheers

ii don't see a problem having the hosting company logo as long as you get referral payments with new customers that you have referred through

Maybe I'm just really caught up in the numbers that DreamHost is showing me, i mean 2400MB of space and 120GB of bandwidth is fuckin great, and for the same price as MT. I've read their About page and they've been around since 1997 and it doesn't sound like their tech support is in India :P
But on the other hand, MT is still tempting just because of all the good reviews and the good tech support, but I'm wondering if the 250MB of storage and 15GB of bandwidth is enough?

If it's numbers you're after, Doteasy has 20GB of space and Unlimited Bandwidth for $9.95
They also have free hosting for a one time transfer fee... I've had one site up there for 3 years and no bill yet.. seems pretty good, but the site is not a big traffic one.
