i'm so bloody ashamed. the only thing more annoying than girls in virtual techie design communities are girls in virtual techie design communities who think they know about jazz and really don't.

(Feb 11 05, 04:47)Snap. But then again I started listening to Jazz via Funk, Funk via Disco, Disco via cheap k-tel albums in 2nd hand shop....
Sun Ra + Spliff = perfect.
Ever seen Space is the place Blofeldt? Weird as fuck but damn good.

i adore sun ra. one of my first real adult experiences was flying to new york city to see sonic youth and sun ra on new year's eve in central park.
yah. that's a highlight.
ta everybody for being nice to me today! i'm terribly fragile at the moment and nt is protecting me from the nasty cold world of synapses.

My dad's a jazz musician so I grew up with it always around me. But i really got into it through funk as well.
I haven't seen the film you're talking about? Sounds odd, looking it up on Google
Do you like Be Bop MX? Got a good album the other day by a New York drummer called Bill sTEWART WITH jOE lOVARNO ON tENOR. pRETTY ACE.

'If you didn't get a chance to see Sun Ra perform, you should seek out Space is the Place, an early 70s movie starring the jazz master from Saturn himself. Ra floats about in a rocket ship propelled by his music and does battle with the FBI, NASA, and other supernatural bad guys. The movie has a cosmic humor, and like Sun Ra it is at times fascinating, indecipherable, and absurd.'

doh. slow reflexes.
roland kirk? no, but that's right up my alley. anybody doing mad things with woodwinds is a friend of mine (i used to play industrial flute). i'll definitely check him out.
- Blofeldt0
Oh, so it is a movie then? Might see if i can find it this weekend.
But if it's shit i'll hold you both personally responsible for wasting my time off!
Heh heh not really.

*the voice of the jazz aficianado from the fast show*
Nice...

I love it all Blofeldt.
I had the great fortune of living just round the corner from a fantastic jazz record shop in Zürich's red light district.
As I was living in a tiny bedsit it became like my living room. The guy who ran the place had a flat behind the shop, so you used to be able to sit in the kitchen for a joint then come back into the shop and hear all this wonderful music. The whole Jazz (and funk) scene in Zürich was massive with a number of illegal underground venues where concerts would start at midnight in a smoky cellar and it would be getting light by the time you came crawling out drenched in sweat and stale ganja smoke....
this place in particular was a firm favourite....
I'm so glad to have found it and made so many friends through it...
Anyway long story, but thought why not.

Roland Kirk was on "Eric Burdon declares WAR" wasn't he??
- Blofeldt0
Brilliant MX, sounds great. I'm jealous. Only a few Jazz clubs where i grew up really, i used to play blues and soul in loads of greasy smokey bars around Bristol.
If you like expiremental stuff check out this guy. Fucking wierd, makes instruments out of ice (The cold stuff not diamonds)
