I saw him play twice at the Schür in Luzern. Couldn't tell you who was playing with him... he was the reason I went.

it's amazing, isn't it, the difference that being in a certain city can make? i miss new orleans a lot. . .
*flashback fade effect
shuffling through the cockroaches and red ants, 100°F in the middle of an august night, sucking down a freezing cold beer produced in a condemned factory, listening to one of the greats in a dive that taxi drivers won't take you to and where the performers stop around three to feed the whole crowd red beans and rice before carrying on until dawn.

i remember the last time i saw him, elvin jones was claiming that it was HIS last live performance.
i've seen elvin three times since then.

Elvin Jones is the loudest drummer i've ever heard. Saw him at Ronnie's a few years ago. You could hardly hear the rest of the band!

omfg! we were at the same show, i'm sure. i saw him there, too. summer of 2002? i had just come from the hypnotherapist's office in harley street.
i don't see how a man who can't control his own bladder is going to make me give up fags, but that's another story.

Ha ha, yeah nostalga's alright huh?
I've not been to New Orleans, but i've played all over California into Arizona and Las Vegas.

Saw some greats in this little bar/restaurant in LA near Hollywood BLvd, John Pattiuci on bass playig latin and then Dave Weckl on another night NOT playing like a crazy mechanical twat, but really nice and understated.

When the nostalga wears off I'll remember that I really hated America I couldn'd wait to go home.

Ha ha. Great, yeah it's very possible, i saw him in 2002 too! I think he did a week there, but i can't remember which day i went on. I saw him in the 90's at the Jazz cafe too.
Do you ever make it to the commuter Jazz sessions at the festival hall on fridays 5.15pm. They're really good, and free. Highly recommended

Yeah I saw him back stage at Tony Macaroni's place down in the Bronx by Washington Heights, we shot a couple of bourbons and he took me backstage to have a blow on his rusty trumbone
