I am planning a logo design contest for my sports website. More details will be coming soon. I am thinking the winner will receive $500 - $1500 US. (still being discussed).
Send me your portfolio to
I hope to begin contest in the next 30 days.
The winner will also be highly considered for future work as well.
*You will also be asked to sign a NDA *

just curious... why would you need our portfolios if you're having a contest? Aren't people just gonna submit their designs?
- slinky0
sorry. but it will be an invited contest. i should have mentioned that... so those that send the portfolio will be invited to participate.
- dippy0
ah, ok.

Why not just hire a designer based on the portfolio submission?
- slinky0
because that limits the possible ideas.

its there way of getting more work for less...... most logo designers give like 3 choices for 500 ......they would get a lot more this way and then they can have the winner integrate the designs they like into one final....

ah...
You get a bunch of people to work for free. I see.

Not at all Dr. Jay, i could easily take my money elsewhere. i just love the talent on this site and wanted to offer a way to help out my people here. if you are not interested then *ignore* it... if no one thiknks this is a good idea, then send me your portfolio and i will review it and i will just give it to who i think has the best portfolio... i just thought the contest would be fun and give me a better selection.

-----------------I'm not sure if you know the meaning of "contest"

I think this is taking advantage of designers.
It *IS* getting people to work for free.
Imagine calling 5 doctors and requesting a free visit to each and youll pick the best one....
Or 5 architects and asking them to build plans for your house, then youll pick the best one...

its for fun...if you get paid then bonus...seriously I see this as no big deal.
You just worried that since I'm in it and you wont win?
:P :P :P

There are design competitions all the time. People submit proposals to design websites, buildings, interiors, all kinds of things. If their proposal gets rejected, they move on. The winners get the job and maybe the opportunity to do more.
If you have a problem with this, don't enter the contest. Don't enter any contest. You might just be wasting your time.
Not hatin', just throwing in my two cents.
- AMFA0
Yea... a little :)
I agree it is fun, etc.
But a few things to think about:
1. The guy has money enough to pay for a logo. But he things if he goes with just ONE designer he wont get the best quality. Sorry, that insults me, you and every other designer out there.
2. At some point, as a professional designer, you reach a stage where you dont do work for free for random clients. (probono, friends stuff, whatever)
3. I think contests like this hurt the perception of the design industry, as well as designers. What other professional in another industry would do this?

this will be a good opportunities for students and inexperienced designers.
Lots of companies offer design contests. Even to redesign buildings. Most museums do that, but if they invite firms, then all who participates get some kind of compensation and the winner gets the grand prize. BIG $$$!

"2. At some point, as a professional designer, you reach a stage where you dont do work for free for random clients. (probono, friends stuff, whatever)"
This I completely agree with! Great point, AMFA.
But there are people who wouldn't mind spending their free time designing a logo in the hopes that theirs will be selected and they win some dough.

"But there are people who wouldn't mind spending their free time..."
thats true, as well as the comment about students, etc.
It just bugs me that this is one of the only fields that people work for free a lot, and because of it, people see all of us a commodity, not experts, and we all should strive to change that perception....
