no doubt, dubs. it seems like such a materialistic and fake thing to do, especially when people are suffering to mine those diamonds. Why not just give her $10 grand?

I don't understand girls' fascinations with rings. I don't really understand the need to have a symbol of engagement either. My mum has given me a few diamond rings in my lifetime, and although they're pretty to look at, I would never wear them.
It seems, in my opinion, to be an insincere expression of emotion, the tradition of giving a girl a ring. Like Valentine's day - how can a teddy bear or a box of chocolates express how you feel?
Oh well.

the canadian idea is a good one.

Ah - nevermind. :)

My fiance loves estate jewelery, so I bout her a 2-300 dollar ring as a "promise ring". Then I let her pick out the band/wedding ring with me later. non-traditional but worked great. Now she has 3 and they look great

i agree with those saying don't go ring shopping with her. talk about styles, colour, cut, shape and maybe point some stuff out in magazines, but going together will just put you in a pickle.

How is that ignorant? While they are very reputable for their quality of diaminds, about 9 out of 10 people in the know will tell you not to buy from them because they are terribly overpriced and you are paying a premium for a name and a little blue box.
Most Tiffany's stores are in major cities in the US, and diamonds are known to cost much more when bought in a major city. Their website prices very likely reflect in store prices.
Their selection is great, most of their stuff is some of the best there is...but I've learned alot about diamonds, and the extra price for their top-of-the line rings represents things that only a trained diamond appraiser can tell, with a microscope.
