daaamn...why is everyone such a hard-ass? I think it's good dude...
- jevad0
Nothing hard-ass about wanting good design and a decent user experience...is there?

It's nice to see a brand toss their whole identity into the toilet though... funny cause black is back in style for sites..and they chose the blue circa 98.

Ahhh...the good ol days of pacsun...i was one of the project leaders during the websphere integration... juxt had did the old site.....I don't know if it was specifically Todd though... can't remember. There are alot of hot heads there, and a $h____ load of political _____ that reigned there. Fortunately, most of the people got out, although I have heard a few people still complaining in the ecommerce dept. PacSun does do really well for its branding, its propoganda reaches to its vendors and makes them all think that they cannot live with out pacsun....although I have a ton of friends at Billabong and Oneill that rather ______ PacSun. Good luck in the future to the peeps at pacsun, I know how much of a corporate stuggle is there, and marketing and IT always has to get there way, even though its not researched the best, even in usability issues.
Can you tell I am trying to be diplomatic before HR has a fit????

not at all- i actually love constructive criticism....i just dont think i would ever classify the site as "shit".
- Nac0
to be honest, the site isn't "shit", finally went into some CSSmodes...and looks like they finally made all the pages dynamic (which I had pushed for for sometime..but no one listens to me so who cares anyway right?)....It needs some love but hey, what site doesn't somewhere? If all sites were as good as they could be, we'd all be kicking Amazon's @$$.
ok....yes sir...I am being nice....don't write me up.... don't whisper to everyone elses cubicle that you don't like me, HR is coming....shhhhhh
- jevad0
"i just dont think i would ever classify the site as "shit""
would you call a spade a spade?
you can't polish a turd.
- Nac0
So no shiny shit jevad?
- jevad0
fraid not son
: )
- fusedliving0
yeah dude, i would polish a turd.
Speaking of polishing, i suggest everyone hop on the bandwagon and start making good websites:

i'm surprised people haven't realized that design by comittee does not work, ever. one good idea is better than a 1000 different shitty ones, especially if those ideas come from focus groups and what not.
- Nac0
bad jevad....doing something against the grain and saying jake nielsen isn't always right.....
- jevad0
don't get me wrong, I've read his book and I agree with a lot of his user experience stuff...but his head disappeared up his own arse several years ago..and has yet to see the light of day again...

compared to the old site, i think its a step back.
- jevad0
I think it's great that it's all CSS/XHTML...jsut needed a little more attention paid to the structure, conteent, design, and user experience.

i didn't really read all the other posts, so sorry in advance.
why did they make the site blue when their logo and entire brand is black?!? two completely different styles.
this looks like the designers created the look and feel from their style, and not the style of their client.
has some nice functionality though.
kinda looks like they went in the direction of urban outfitters.
- k0na_an0k0
also. sorry again.
scene7 is really the way to go when dealing with buying clothing online.

check what they did for macys. click the image to view it larger. see how you can zoom in and keep the image quality. nice. we're working on it now for our stuff here.
you can take that photo, map it, then lay a texture over the top of it like if it were in denim and you can't tell the difference. it's amazing stuff.
for a clothing company as large as these guys why aren't they using it? or are they and im' just an idiot for not seeing it?

i concur the site is easy to use and easy on the eyes. But for fuck sake who desided to forget about the brand image and put this up? Colors arent even close to what they should be and the style looks like it should be for a billabong kids label. I'm all for concept over style but to decide on neither is a shame. This site doesn't speak well for PS and doesn't speak to the consumer. Too bad you weren't still there Nac...probably would have at least had a fighting chance. I don't mean to dog you Jeff since I'm sure this had little to do with the design team and more to do with the powers that be...and that always fucks things up.
Cheers!

Billabong kids, that's exactly what it looks like. That, or that crap suburban middle america Abercrombie knock-off Hollister.
God when I go to the mall in Rockford, IL where my girlfriend's dad lives, I treat it as a big experiment to determine all the reasons I always want to live in the city.
