I was living there in 2003 for a year freelancing in some studios.. was pretty easy to learn both catalan and spanish since i'm italian..
actually i can understand catalan but i stopped try to speaking catalan because it seemed to speak a wrong italian mixed to a wrong spanish so friends ask me to stop..

no, but as i was walking home lastnight past this gallery opening here (buncha designer type people here) i overheard someone saying how barcelona is just so beautiful and you should really come and see it.

do you speak veneziano? a friend of mine who lives there (and also lived here) told me that there are some words in dialect that are similar to catalan...

exactly.. eastern north italian dialect is pretty similar to catalan..

to this day, the way to express that someone is tongue-tied or ill-bred in sardinia is to say that he doesn't speak very good catalan!

Three years now!!! But I speak Spanish like an ass and Catalan like a tounge tied fool... Trouble is I share the office with a Brit and I became a father as soon as I arrived so my preoccupations were with nappies rather than parablas...
