Sorry, man!
- paraselene0
'fraid it's just the three of us, cappie!
- CaP0

- Cornelius0

- CaP0

I've been to Barcelona... does that count?
I have been there many times, in fact all of my in-laws are Catalan.
What's iot like working out there?
- Cornelius0
Living there is heaven on earth, I’m off there in February to invetigate the possibility of me working there again. Not sure what the job climate is like in the Design industry now though... it was great a few years ago.

well, when i asked i meant as if somebody else has lived/worked here...
personally i think it's a very good city, nice atmosphere, very nice weather (i'm on my t-shirt now), good partying...
maybe it is a bit overrated now, but hey... it's well deserved!

i've been thinking about relocating as well. the problem is that, being a yank, i'm really vulnerable in teh visa dept. so i have to wait until i find someone willing to take over my sponsorship.
or just get hitched...

Well I would love to work out there , and I do have it slightly easier as my wife and all her family are from the region.
However I have heard that in Barcelona, everybody speaks Spanish as the day to day business language.
I am learning Spanish at night classes at the mo, but it's hard going after a day of work.
- CaP0
well, it's true... you won't encounter any problems being spanish speaking, since everything must be also in spanish. don't worry, take one step at a time, learn spanish first. catalan will come easy after that...

I lived there for a year... didn’t have a word of Catalan or Spanish before I left the green of Ireland. Went to college (they spoke catalan) got a job in a studio (they all spoke catalan) my girlfriend was catalan and I’m pretty sure you’re more than able to pick up a language once emersed in it fully.

it really is amazing. i learned castillian and catalan simultaneously. you can certainly get by in bcn without speaking catalan, but for me it was essential a) as a linguistics student and b) as a mark of respect. i find that people can be super tetchy about the subject of diglossia if you don't make the effort, but if you do, you're in like flint.

Thanks - Well the funny part is that I can already speak Catalan. It's not brilliant but the folks can understand me. I picked it up from chatting to family and friends. However the Spanish I am learning is Grammer as well and I get really confused between the 2 languages

good point... if you try (at least try) to speak catalan it'll definitely get you a couple of beers. or more ... ;)
- paraselene0
it'll be like that at first, terminal. for about three years i was sure that "sortida" was the spanish word for exit and "salida" was catalan!
the brain is a marvellous piece of fucking technology, but you can only ask so much of it.
these things straighten themselves out in the end, tho.

Well guys it’s Beer O’Clock so I’m off for Friday’s reward...! Adeu!
- paraselene0
